Won't start after overheating
Hi gang.
I have a 93 max, with the ve30de dohc. I was driving and the water pump went out. The car is turning over, sounds like it is not getting gas. I was wondering if a relay or fuse might have blown. I have checked all the fuses, have looked at the relays I could find but could not tell if the were good or bad. Just seeing if someone might send me in the right direction. I have replaced the water pump.

Did you replace the thermostat? They can stick after overheating, but I don't think that's related to your issue.

Its cranking, I was driving and it just shut down. I saw it overheating and tried to get of the highway and it just shut down. I was thinking that somewhere in the electrical or computer system, there was a relay or fuse thatblows after the system tells it to shut down when it get to cetain temp. I was just glad it still turned over after the overheating. Maybe something to say for synthetic oil.

If the car shut down I would be looking for melted pieces in the wiring. The underhood environment is not a good one for plastic and when a car overheats it just gets that much worse. My Dad overheated my old Dodge Polara I have and it melted every plastic piece under the hood.
Worst case possibility
Depending on how hot you over heated the engine you could have blown a head gasket. If all fuses and connections look good, and you're getting fuel and spark the only thing you're missing is heat which we get from compression. Install a eng comp tester and keep your fingers cross.

Had a similar problem on a '90 SE, only that mine never overheated on the hgwy. As long as I'm driving it was fine, but as soon as I shut off the engine, it would never restart, sounded as tho it wasn't getting gas, would fire but never start.
I would have to wait until it cooled down then restart.
Finally a tech at a local Nissan dealer told me the problem was a sensor that's connected to the flange that houses the thermostat (see pic below).
As soon as I changed the sensor the problem went away. Apparently it was sending a false reading to the computer that the car was overheating, thus not allowing the engine to start until it was cool.
I have included a pic for you to see exactly what I'm talking about.
Good thing: the sensor is about $27.00 from nissan, and if you are going to change it, go ahead and change the harness too, about anothr $11.00.
