Does Track hold better then road?

Hey you know how everyone says lighter rims will make u faster...well ok I took off my front 17 inch konig monsoons and put on some stock wheels.. the tires are some Good Years on the 15inch steelys with Traction rating A the same as my 17 inch tires...now the tires being less wide and much lighter is making it hard to keep them on the ground...my car rips right threw them.

I can do a role from 30-35 mph and spin to red line then bark the hell out of 2nd. And launching is crazy, I cant lock up no matter what i do , ive even tried launching as low as 1300 rpms.

I was just wondering u think i should just bite the dust and put on the heavier 17s for traction, or u think the track will be stick enough to hold my 15s

thanks

-Chris

Man I dont know, i think i would figure out how to make the 15's stick.. and you say the tread is good on them .. ? i would figure new tires but who wants that expense.

Drop the PSI on the stockers. I have done down to 14 psi before on 15's in order to get traction. Heavy wheels hurt you in every gear not just 1st gear.
I know what you mean about them being almost too light, I have used some 30lb wheel tire combo's at the track and I had to completly change my launch. But trust me lighter wheels will make a difference.

Ceasars Chariot: yeah the tires are like brand spanking new. but there not really peformance tires...my car is just putting to much power down for them to hold like they did when i was stock

Thanks Mike i will try turing down the psi when i go to the track.

Will lowering the PSI on the tires make me be able to lauch like i usly do or will i still have to adapt?

If your getting to much wheels spin the drop the PSI. Go down 3-4 pounds then see how that works. Just try differnt lauching techniques with different tire pressures to see what works best.
This pretty much has to be done at the track because you won't be able to really feel the difference in a 2.4 60" or a 2.0 60".

But generally you will always be faster on your stock 15's unless your running really light 17's
