Kicked an Olds Alero's butt
Was driving down the 101 from the bay area down to L.A. This Red Alero comes up with rims and these funky fog lights...
Wanted to race. I was tired but up to it since there are never any cops around Solvang area. I slowed down to about 70- we were side by side then just floored it. The max jumped and took off. I was maybe a half mile ahead in no time. I slowed down later and he came up behind and flashed these wierd fogs that kinda changed color... I guess he was surprised or somthing?
Crazy people that don't realize what an awesome car the maxima is. Them and minivan drivers... lol
Anyone know what kinda fog lights those were... they kinda went from pink to blue to white... and almost vibrated..?
The Alero has a smaller engine than its sister, the Intrigue. The Alero is rated at 170/200 for the V6 version (note there is a 4 cylinder model). I looked at the Intrigue when I was car shopping. I actually liked that car and it had good power. The Intrigue is rated at 215/230. They are both front-wheel drive.
My neon smoked an V6 ALero. They are not that fast. I got a huge jump on him. Got a picture, you can see that the flagger is right behind the car and I already got a nose on him, that's the beautiful lights of LV in the background.

I had a chance to drive my aunt's Alero last April when I was I visiting my relatives in Texas. She has the 3.4 V6. It has a nice and smooth pickup from a stop but it doesn't seem to give you more after 85 mph.
Slow GM cars
It seems to me that most of GMs midsized cars are dogs over 80mph. I was on the interstate one night and this guy in a Brand new Ram Air Grand Am GT wanted to race....and it was over in about 15 seconds, my max (stock at the time) just pulled like crazy on him. I was actually really suprised. The only fast ones that I have encountered were the Grand Prix GTP and the Buick Regal GS (mainly cuz of the S/C). I really don't know what's wrong with the americans, they just don't know how to build sedans that go fast up top.

Slow sales. Olds market stragedy isn't working. GM could spend more money in research, but they fear they will lose to much money.
If I had the money, I would get a very cheap new Aurora. I love them.
?? American cars can not go fast or have nothing up top? Have you heard of the Corvette or Viper? If you did not know, the Corvette took the 24 Hours Of Daytona this weekened. Beat those V8 BMW's, hybrid cars, etc, and everything else. Don't forget about the Cyclone, too, a lesser known car that was pretty good in its time.
It is not that those GM cars can not go fast, or they have nothing up top, but the mass produced cars are just not built that way.
The Camaro of the 60's and 70's was built to compete against the Mustang in the the road racing circuit, and gave 'em a pretty good whippin'. It was scaled back, the "go fast ones", that is, because GM wanted to "focus their attention" on automobiles for the masses and not racing.
It is not that they can not build the power; it is because they do not feel it is needed.
I am not really defending GM, or Ford, or anybody else who does not consistently demostrate power in their cars, but it should be acknowledged that some of the better cars ever produced are not done so by those the most obvious.

Yeah those fogs are freaky when they are right behind you.... another thing is SUV's right on your tail... sometimes I slow down and they come right up and it blinds you...
Call me crazy but I dont turn the rearview dimmer- I can see cops better with it down. but i get blinded too,

GM's, Ford's... all cr*%
Sure, they CAN build osme fast cars, but the vast majority of the GM and Ford products are pure junk, compared to the Japanese and German cars. Why do we all drive Maxima's?? Because domestic cars are junk... they will never learn. I had an Alero for a week (rental), and it was horrible! Terrible tranny, weka brakes, loose steering... with only 7 k miles on it. Sorry, but I'll never own an American made car again. BTW, I was at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona last week, and the vast majority of cars there were foreign! Except for those pathetic "3 car" people that showed up...
