Cost is variable, depends on if you can find donor cars in junkyards where you live. Some people have gotten all the parts for $800, transmission and all. I spent about twice that, but I went with new drive axles from raxles.com and an ACT clutch, and I put new bearings in the tranny.

It took me about three hours to install the clutch pedal (I thought that was the hardest part, but I hate working up under the dash) and clutch master cylinder. Then the next weekend I spent two full days pulling the auto tranny out and installing the cltuch, manual tranny, new driveshafts, shift linkage and bleeding the clutch.

I'll never forget the feeling of elation I had driving the car with the manual for the first time (especially after the weird jingling noise went away when I made the first right turn).

The car doesn't have to be down the whole week. I drove it around with a clutch pedal and auto transmission for a week. The total time the car was down was one weekend.

5 speed conversion...well let me say that I've also done this, in fact this weekend and I'm not quite done, need to bleed the clutch and need to make sure that all electrical components are hooked up as I did an engine swap along with mine. I put in a 97 engine into the 95...and ended up switching harnesses....man...I'm tired...but I have some questions for the 5 speed conversion guys...how are you supposed to bleed the clutch system?...also in the 95 where did you run the clutch lines? is it in the engine bay underneath the brake master cylinder? in the 95gxe it had the canister there...and I'm wondering what you guys did to bypass that if anything.

Thanks,

O

Well if you have ABS, running the hydraulic lines is a pain but if you take off the brake master it is much easier. Also to bleed use the upper bleeder first just the way you would do the brakes. Then once that is buble free go to the lower bleeder on the slave cylinder. After that is free of bubles your all set.
