Why does the fuse for the lights in my instrument cluster keep blowing?

Help me! This is so annoying. I've tried a 7.5 amp fuse (what's supposed to be there) and a 10 amp fuse and both of them have blown. If 7.5 amps of current or less are supposed to be flowing through this system, why are 10+ amps going through? What could be the problem. Somebody help me please!

I was hoping someone would tell me something else. But I haven't bothered anything. My check engine light came on and I checked the code for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was an EVAP circuit fault code. That's all I can think of that I have done. I had an accident and had the car repaired by dealer like a month and a half ago. I don't reckon they left something unhooked or loose or something. The airbags deployed and I guess they had to mess with the steering wheel. Where could there be possible shorts? How do I locate them?

Please help me. Can you imagine how annoying it is not to be able to see the tach or speedometer when you're driving? Well, it's true you can know how far you're pressing the throttle pedal down and tell when you need to shift by how fast you're moving relative to how far you have the pedal pressed, but I like being able to see this data real-time and explicitly.

So anyway, no one has had this experience???

well the problem is fixed, or maybe I should just say I took my car to Nissan and they got the fuses to stop blowing and they haven't blown since (Friday 9-5-03). I had an accident in June and they and I was assuming the repair had something to do with the problem. But they called me after having my car for hours (I don't think they had actually been working on it all that time, though) and asked if it could be my radio. You know, they see the subs the amp and the power wire coming from the battery. I told them I put the radio and the speakers and all that in like a couple of months after I got the car. Then the service rep guy calls back in another hour and says that behind the cluster with the radio and ac controls and all that, there were three or so wires in a harness each having about a quarter inch naked. They said it was not done by radio install (I guess I should be glad since that would be me) and that it probably had been that way from the factory. ended up costing me $170. I'm guessing this was all labor. I just wish I had thought to look back there and see what I can see. Could have saved some dough I really need these days. Good to be able to see my speedometer and tach at night again, though. Every time I go to Nissan and pay money I feel better about my car. Maybe a conditioned response.
