Auto Tranny occasionally doesnt shifts

When I am driving i occasionally notice that the car does not shift when it should. i would be at around 3500 rpms and the lightest bit of gas and it should definatly shift but it doesnt. I then have to put it in neutrel then drive to get it into the proper gear. This only happens once in a while. I am wondering on how i would fix this. Any info or comments woulkd be appreciated. Thanks

I had a similar problem. I changed my knock sensor and took it out to test the car. I was going about 40 mph when the car simply didnt shift around the 3000 rpm mark so I drove in the 2nd position until I got a idea what was going on. Another member who had the same problem that we have said his "It ended up being a bad wire. They also changed the Transmission Control Unit one time, and a solenoid 3 times, the 5th time the valve body was loose or somthin thanks to the stealership leaving bolts off ". My situation was strange. I got so fustrated that I got on an open road and gunned it. after about 2 minutes of driving at 6000rpm the car began to shift. Then after about 2 days of driving like i robbed a bank the car shifts like it should. Now Im a newbie to this as you can see but I hope this gives you some idea of what might be the problem.

Good luck

I had the same problems months ago but for my lucky day i found a new VB on the backyard of a friend house...and i put it on my car...and the problem left.

I have a similar problem. When the car is still warming up it shifts rough between 1 and 2nd. It also seems like there's a delay too and then it finally kicks into 2nd. Also, even when the car is warmed up, I'll be cruising very slowly (after a California rolling stop) around 5pmh~10mph and I give it moderate gas, the Max has a difficult time downshifting and finding the right gear. Could this be the solenoid valve? Will frequent tranny pan drops (every 20k) prevent further worsening or reverse the problem?

yes...i had the same problem...as i told you guys before...if you have this sytoms:

1. very (i mean) very hard shift on mornign starts...sometimes when the VB is almost death you will feel like the engine trying to shut down on 1st, 2nd, R gears. Just in park and N you feel ok.

2. When your cool engine is starting, you will feel like very underpower car...you can accelerat and the car will go like a manual under 30 mph and you are drivin on 5 gear. Very slow rpms go up.

3. When you are driving on highway or free street..and you remove you foot from the pedal....the rpms from 2000rpms, or 3 will drop like the car is in Neutral!!! very scare!!!!!!!!! man i was really worry about this.

After my lucky day, my mechanic remove the old VB and we saw a **** solenoid valve was stock(thats why the tranny didnt shift good) and the valve solenoid didnt send any signal to the tranny control(thats why the rpms drops when you remove the foot from the pedal)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOo if you can change the VB and all the system you will be right again.
