ARP Head Stud Part Numbers

Mardi got this started, but here are the part numbers you need if you want head studs from ARP. I should have them within a week or so. I'll post updates.

Studs - ATP 5.200-1LB
Nuts - APN12-1
Washers - APW1316N

SGP Racing in TX should be putting together a head stud kit and also a main kit for us. I'm not sure when the mains will be available.

Thanks for doing all the work! Many will benifit from this. Blown headgaskets are on the endangered species list, lets start breaking rods and pistons!

What's the point of using this style head studs? Just stronger? I'd imagine they'd be easier to work with.

What's a set cost?

factory bolts are made to stretch, "torque to yield", for mass production ease. Factory bolts under high cylinder pressures will stretch and let the cylinder head "pop up" and blow the gasket seal. These are stronger and will not stretch.

The problem with factory bolts is that they stretch. High pressures inside the cylinder can lead to a blown head gasket with stock bolts. These studs don't stretch like the factory bolts.

I'm not 100% on pricing, but the stud kit should be around $250 but I don't know about the main kit.

I still want to know who's been blowing head gaskets. And does the FSM really call for torque to yield? I could use SR bolts over and over again and never had this problem.

When you're running boost it's much better to be safe then sorry. I'd rather spend the extra money to do it right then have to redo it down the road.

Hal, Ben Blanco, RedMax, to name a recent few. Cheep insurance over re using OE parts IMHO.

Just got off the phone with ARP
the nuts are 1.60 each
The washers are .66 each
The head studs are 7.76 cents

We need 10 So the grand total for the whole set is $100.20
So why is sgp racing sselling the set for $400.?

Ten?

We need sixteen...

$1.60 x 16 = $25.60
$0.66 x 16 = $10.56
$7.76 x 16 = $126.16

Total = $162.32

I think the set that SGP is selling includes the mains also.

They're replaceable? I didn't look too hard at the rods, but I thought the studs/bolts were integrated into them.

Would the mains be a stud/washers/nut setup as well, or just stronger bolts?

but i thought we really didnt need the main studs because the mains on our engines are so well built

I doubt the ARP main studs are much better than the stockers.
