can i sandpaper the headlight nubs off? (eyelids install)

man, i came to work and the company dremel had gone missing so... other than taking a bunch of time, would grinding down the nubs w/ sandpaper have any problems??

I'll make sure to cover the rest of the lense w/ masking tape so that i don't scratch it...

what grit should i use? help me out please, thanks!

use a pretty fine grit, but you'll probably have to use power tools if your lenses are glass. be sure to mask off all painted surfaces too, as flying glass particles aren't too nice to the finish.

only reason those nubs are there are for alignment using machines.. if you align the headlights yourself, then there's no need to have them.

Come inspection time, make sure you take it to a shop that doesn't use them for the alignment machines. I know a guy who failed inspection cuz the nub broke off. Had to take it somewhere else, but lost his $14 for the 1st inspection.

heh... get your car inspected 15 min before the shop closes... all they did was stick my car on the sniffer/dyno and slapped a sticker on the window. I had a brake light out, one of my headlights can't be aligned because the adjusters are fubar'd, and both of my rear tires are bald.
15 min and I was outta there! 10 of it was waiting in the office to pay the inspection fee.

One of my nubs on my TYC's fell off, but that does not matter. What does matter is if you want to get rid of them filling/sanding whatever would work. Now as for the glass lenses? A really fast cut off wheel, patience, and safty glasses might do the trick.

They're starting to crack down on inspection stations here in NY (or so I've been told by a handful of mechanics)

Don't forget, when you're done, you will have four little opague dots where the nubs were.
