Can anyone answer my y-pipe question

Hey everyone. No one has been able to answer my question anyone. Does anyone get a weird sound after you put on your y-pipe? I dont know if it's the beez in a coffee can type sound. It only happens when I give it a lot of throttle or WOT. I was wondering if anyone put an extra gasket between their y-pipe and the headers? I like the y-pipe but hate that sound. but can live with it if there is no sol'n.

I just got my WSP y-pipe yesterday. You really got a problem there if it sounds like that. Mine sounds like a old grand am lol.!!! Only until 1800 rpm!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS what type of y-pipe do you have, and what year is your car???

I don't know about an extra gasket but there should be a gasket between every link in the piping. The gaskets that connect to the precats or E/manifold are crush ring gaskets and the ones on either side of the main cat are larger metal/fiber gaskets.
Leaving out one of these will create an exhaust leak that will make more noise at higher rpms.

give it some time... the flex section on the pipe will break in a bit and get quieter...

the flex should get quietier as it breaks as umd maxse said but if its still too loud then i would look at using header wrap around the flex to quiet it down. ive got an ss cattman and the noise started bugging me cause i roll my windows down most of the time so i wrapped the flex a while back and it helped a good deal espically in the heat.

You probably have an exhaust leak. Jack up your car so you can get under it or take it to a shop. Turn on your car when its cold so the pipes arent burning hot. And go around and feel for air. Some exhaust shops use silicone, so no need for the gasket. I hate silicone.
