I was told by someone that it is not good to run an mevi on a turbo'd car because the turbo would go past its surge point in the higher rpm and begin to break things. I was told that the only way to be able to fully tune a turboed car with an mevi is if you have a sequential turbo like in a porsche.

 

all the MEVI does is allow the car to breathe better on the top-end...I see no feasible way it could hurt the turbo. it should actually improve performacne even more than n/a. plus Nigel has one his car. I don't see what a sequential turbo setup has to do with tuning MEVI though....

I have one on my car, believe me it helps, not hurts! Gained more than 50 HP at the top end and about 30 HP peak overall. No help to torque

 

The MEVI wont hurt the car, just the fact that after 9 plus PSI you will need more fuel after 6K so Z injectors is a must. It also depends what size turbo you have and when does full boost hit towards the end etc..

thats why you need to properly match the turbo and know its flow characteristics....but seriously the MEVI only increases the powerband into the mid 6k RPM right? its not like thats gonna demand a big *** T78 or something, any T4 series turbo should be able to handle that fine and like Jay said, add fuel accordingly

 

I don't get it. Surging happens when the compressor is making way more air than the engine can take. So if anything, it would help prevent surging since it allows the engine to accept more air at high rpm.

 

I don't think that's going to happen on a T04B turbo. It's not like you're pushing it to the limits of the turbo. If you were running 20psi, I could see that maybe it could happen. It's not like you're running a T25 or something.

 

I am in agreement here! At higher rpms the airflow is increased when you switch to the shorter runners. Why would you get surge? Definitely, i agree matching is very important, but the VI should not hurt things, it should help.

 

Ok Shadow Since you mentioned it, I am planning on running 16 to 18 lbs of boost at least on this turbo, will i be pushing it to its limits?

 

Take a look at a compressor map and see whether or not you are close to or beyond the surge limit. Your turbo installer should be able to tell you this.
