Nu Finish question

Can I wax my car after Nu Finish has been applied or do I need to get the polish off my car to be able to wax it?

In a nutshell, you would have to remove the polish before applying a wax to the vehicle.

It is not what I would classify as a "quality product". There are far better choices for the same money and there are plenty of people who have plenty of bad things to say about it. One common thing seems to be that it is heavy in the ol' solvents department...not good.

Hey endus, I think you have to be logged in to read that.

Basically, Nu Finish stinks, can stain plastic trim, and isn't as super durable as it claims (which by itself reduces its standing) for your trouble. You can do better in an off the shelf wax for a little more or the same cost.

NuFinish is for folks that do not like waxing/polishing their car very often (every few years). My mother's car would be a great example, a beaten up 94 altima. Since you are Maxima enthusiast and and a .org member, you probaly care much more about the appearance of your car than most, hence you do not fall into the above category.

As mentioned in Bman's post, get a regular wax on the shelf. A good choice would be Rain Dance paste. It shines better than NuFinish and last almost as long.

My car was okay looking, but then I put on a layer of Nu Finish and a month later, I put on the second layer. Now that it's on there, I just wax over it every month or so. Double protection

Why don't you use the Meguiar's Quick Detailer or equivalent? It would save time and energy rather than waxing it. Just a thought.

I realize that there are people that do that but there are a couple problems with this...

a.) NO product will last that long, so you're leaving the car without protection for most of that time if that's how long you're going between waxings.

b.) There are far FAR better products out there that are aimed at the low maintinance market. If I didn't want to wax my car very often I would use Zaino, Ardex Carbon Wax, or even Klasse...all of which will probably last significantly longer than NuFinish.

It's the thought that counts

What do you base your statements on other products lasting longer than NuFinish? Beading up or shine? How is regular wax going to last longer than a polymer based product?

I agree with you that there are better products on the market but I do not believe that they will last longer than NuFinish if they are wax based products.

Two of the products I mentioned are synthetic non-wax products. The other is a wax that I guarantee almost no one here has heard of...

According to pretty much every review of NuFinish that I have ever read, their logevity claims are absolute bull****...so lasting longer than it is not that unreasonable. Personally I had Ardex (the wax) on my car for about 8 months and water was still beading...I'll put that up against NuFinish any day. Zaino and Klasse are both supposed to last 6 months.

Sorry for bumping an older thread, but I'd just like to add that it's really best to just forget about thinking "is it synthetic or carnauba?" when considering durability. Just do it on a product-by-product basis. Manufacturers also sometimes blend one kind of wax with the other, so strictly categorizing them sometimes isn't fair. Some "synthetic" waxes have REALLY sucky durability, while some "carnauba" waxes have extremely impressive durability.

I for one, have not been impressed by Nu Finish, and take exception to their "once a year" claim.

My $0.02...
