Funny noise, now shop wants $400+ !!!
Yesterday morning, I walked to my car ( not a Maxima ) and heard a 'running' noise from my wife's 2000 Maxima SE. The noise sounded something between a running fuel pump, and a very wimpy ( quiet ) car alarm.
Took it to the shop and they now tell me it's the MOTOR MOUNT !! The shop manager says it 'some type of active mount' that has two positions. He guessed 'sport' and 'normal'. I've never heard of this, and you can imagine I'm pretty miffed.
Anyone experience this problem; know details about this 'active motor mount', or even better, if you can tell me if it can be 'fixed' in one position. I hate to spend the money if it's not absolutely necessary.
many thanks,
Hobart

First time I'm hearing about an active Motor Mount. I have Active suspension on my Supra. Soft, Med,Firm... but Motor mounts are usually Gel filled not electric.. I broke the one on my supra when I was putting my motor back in after the rebuild and cost $136 from Toyota for 1 Motor Mount.
I received some further info from the shop about this active motor mount: Seems there are two settings, soft ( for idle ) and hard ( for driving ). The shop ( local Nissan dealer ) says they can probably disable the soft setting. He warned that during idle, the car may vibrate more than before.
If anyone has experience with this phenomena, please elaborate.

You see Auto has an electronically controlled mounts. They keep vibration down when you at the light.
You can do search on that and see what you can find.
I just picked the car up from the dealership. The service manager told me that they just disconnected the motor which changes the mount from soft to hard. He said I may not notice the difference. Well, I can't. However I don't drive the car daily, my wife does.
When I asked if the setting goes to soft or hard if the plug is disconnected, he couldn't answer that. I believe that the motor will simply remain in the position it last was, when it was working properly.
