P0138 and P0139

Car threw both these codes the other day. They are as follows: P0138, the input voltage from O2 sensor 2 in bank 1 is too high for current operating conditions.
P0139, the response time for O2 sensor 2 in bank 1 was too slow during testing.

Assuming all my wiring is good it looks like I have a dead O2 sensor. Should I try and have the dealer replace it, bumper to bumper is up but I thought the emisions equipment is covered for five years. I've had mixed results when going to my dealer and not sure if I really want to deal with them anyway. Any ideas how much an O2 sensor goeas for?

I replace one recently and got it for 57$ cdn approx. 40$ US at a local dealer, it was still under warranty but because of my Y-Pipe, didn't want the dealer to give me the speach.

Cheers

Dealer tells me that the components of the emissions system (ie the Cat) are covered for five years, but the O2 sensors are only covered for a period of three years or 36,000. POS dealer. And the part goes for $86.00. I'm P.O.'d

My car started throwing the same code after The Guy at a Muffler shop welded too close to my B pipe to get some rusted bolts off. I think he fried my O2 sensor. Anyhow, I ordered a new one from Southpointnissan.com DAVEB for $61 + $5 shipping. YOu can't beat that dude. Should be here tomorrow.

I have a Y-pipe and When Dealer looked at my car He was Like, wheres are you precats?? I said What Precat, My car came like this from Factory

Dan,

I got the same two codes from my car last week. Check out this link.
http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissa...28.asp?mscssid

Bank 1 Sensor 2 is closest to the Cat Conv. It is not used under normal conditions, so it doesn't effect your gas mileage. I think it's just a backup to protect the cat if the other sensor fails.

Unfortunately the service bulletin is saying that our ECM (computer) needs a software update , "Reprogramming of the vehicle's ECM to the New ECM Data P/N may also be needed to help prevent incidents from reoccurring (this revision contains ECM data which has been improved over the previously published ECM data). "

If the software caused the oxygen sensor to fail, Shouldn't our friends at Nissan Corp. pick up the tab since they issued a TSB?

Thanks for the info. Could explain why I still have the check engine light on after replacing the rearmost O2 sensor. Will talk to my service writer to see what course of action to pursue. FYI I already had my ECU reprogramed once after the car threw a P0140 about a year ago.

Did you leave your battery unplugged for about 30 minutes?

Replaced both the O2 sensor by the cat as well as the one before the cat (CA spec. '01). I went and talked to the service guys at my local dealer and he actually did me a favor One of the service techs came out and pulled my codes, since the service guy tried giving me a line about Nissan uses unique codes and the Autozone codes were wrong. Needless to say the Autozone codes were correct. The tech then went and searched their data base for possible solutions, he suggested that according to NTB01-076B the wires may have broken or frayed near where the harness turns and goes through the firewall.

Now I need to find the time to remove about a mile of electrical tape.

Hey guys, I have p0138, I was monitoring o2 sensors voltage on scantool and 1 of o2 sensor doesn't go up or down as its should be and its stay on 0.35V and the rest of o2 sensors go up and down which are good. So I tried to unplug that o2 sensor and see if its going to 0V but it stays on 0.35V. I unplugged other o2 sensors and they have 0V. I am assuming that o2 sensor is good but is that possible the wire(female) is shorted?
