Where do i start w/ boost?

Hello, im very intrested in doing something serious soon but where do i really need to start with boost. Should i buy a kit or slap stuff together, get in with boost happy kids around my city, read 6 books about boosting, try my first job myself or have someone else do it.?

Im mechanically inclined by far and have alot of patience but i really just dont know where to start. Please tell me how YOU "GOT INTO" boosting ur max or where did YOU really begin.

thankyou

I have stillen SC kit...this is what've done to prep my car for SC boost:
1.beef up the tranny with vb/tranny cooler and monitor it with temp gauge
2.increase exhaust flow by adding the y pipe

Stillen kit very reliable for everyday driving if you ask me. People that talk bad about it are the ones that pay for the labor and dont have a clue what happened. I have never had a problem with my kit except when I first installed it and because I was missing 3 bolts up top. Once I ordered them from NAPA @ about $.35 cents a piece I was good all the way up to right now and still doing fine. When you press on the gas for the first time and you get that sling shot effect your like my car is very fast. Feels so good youll only understand if your driving and it feels good.

My personal story goes like this.

Got the SC, had it installed by a local shop. Idiots messed up the belt tension, snapped a belt 3 months later. Jamie (jay25) replaced the belt for me and showed me how to remove and install the blower. Everything was fine for the next 10 months, then I snap another belt, and melt both pulleys. Decided it wasn't what I wanted anymore so I sold it. and now I'm in the process of custom building a turbo kit for my car. And we recently just completed a custom turbo for a friend's maxima.
