2000 MAXIMA NO START with a 2000 ECU , but starts with a 2001 ECU

I have a 2000 Maxima GLE automatic (cali version)..The motor mounts shorted out and blew the ecu. I purchased the same exact ECU , however, it does not start the car (after key programming of course)...I have a buddy that has a 2001 and I used his computer and that started my car. I then swapped the 2000 ECU to his 2001 and it started his car!!. So both computers are good. However, for some reason the ECU designed for my car does not start it, but a 2001 Ecu Starts it!

I betcha it's down to the production dates... late 2000 and/or early 2001 for parts and chassis?

Keep the 2001 ecu b/c there's no EGR. There's no point using a 2000 model. EGRs are stupid and useless.

Thats the last resort to use the 01 ecu. However, I would still like the car to run with the computer designed for it.

I tried another 2000 max ECU matching the original one and still doesn't start.

I will try the fuel pump today..maybe the fuel pump is failing and for some reason does not work with a 2000 Ecu? Weird..but you never know..will post an update later.

Fuel is pumping good..

One thing I forgot to mention, is that the transmission in the car was changed in the past.. Someone painted the whole transmission in thick grey enamel paint. I'm thinking they painted the mating surface. However, why the hell does the car start with an '01 computer..

The ECUs are the same in every way that matters. The car is doing you a favor in case the EGR tube clogs or valve goes bad.

There's tons of stuff on cars that's not designed correctly. Consider this another one that you get to fix. I mean, does anyone smart really change their cheap filter/oil at 7.5/10k miles on german cars? The manufacturer is deliberately lying to you, so they can sell more cars later.

I suggest using the VIN number of your car to find out the part # of the ECU you need (web sites such courtesyparts.com can tell/help you here). If you indeed have the correct part, then either the replacement ECU is faulty, or there is something wrong with your car.

I used two known good 2000 ECU's with matching part # and they program fine but still wont start car. Something is wrong with the car. Don't know why it works with only the 2001 ECU..but I just left it that way...It runs fine with no code.. However, curious as hell why a 2000 ecu won't start the car.

A little background on the car: It has 74k miles...The original computer was damaged due to a short in the rear engine mount.
