People who use amsoil ..

I have a y2k with current mileage about 54k.
Back at 50k I flush my engine and use a amsoil 5w-30 that suppose to go for 1 yr/25k extended oil change interval.

Today I checked my oil and the color seems incredibly brown and seems the oil is very very thin. I am just about to replace the oil filter today before trip to Austin. Is it normal or shall I replace the oil at the same time . Now, I don't feel comfortable driving it out of town.

any input before COB will be appreciate it.

TIA

Oil starts to change color wihtin a few hundred miles, don't worry about that.
However, there is no way I'd go 12mo or 25K between changes, the most I'd ever consider is 7K.
Changing your oil is cheap maintenance that will result in engine longevitity. Even having a shop do it twice a year with Mobil 1 is less than $100.

That AMSOIL Oil is incredibly badass... and it's supposed to be thin like that, it's low viscocity...

ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DO NOT wait for 12mo or 25k miles - no matter what they claim! Not all the "junk" gets caught in the filter and there are combustion byproducts that end up in suspension in the oil will cause it to turn acidic over time. Change oil (and filter) often and save your engine from corrosion and wear! It's cheap insurance if you really care about your car.

I give my car fresh Mobil 1 and an OEM filter every 5k miles.

Amzoil

Amzoil is a quality synthetic but you ought to check bobistheoilguy.com for used oil anlaysis and comments. Generally, it seems that synthetics can safely be used for maybe 10,000 miles but this depends entirely on the engine. In my 2k2 GLE I have been changing on the three month servere service schedule using a non-syn oil. At the second change at an interval of only 750 miles, the oil was fine chemically but had sheared down from 30 to 20W. This indicates that the VQ engines are somewhat hard on oil, and I suspect the OH cam drive train may be the cause.
It's not my car but I would NEVER run and oil over 5,000 miles without and analysis.

I just switched over to Amsoil also, but I'd never go over 7k miles between oil changes. Having a regular oil change schedule is probably the best thing you can do for your car. I'd change that oil immediately if I were you!

I'm kinda new to Amsoil too. I am at about 8k in my Max and I'm about to do a filter change. I have it in my Stang too, and so far, I love it!!! No more timing chain rattle from either car.
