just some advice from what I've seen working on this swap....swapping in the Z motor is more work than needed IMO. stock Maxima block with the right fuel/ignition setup is sufficient, plus 9:1 is perfect CR.

also trying to wire in the 300zx computer is not the way to go, mainly cause its not a direct fit...if you plan on going with bigger injectors anyways, scratch that and go with JWT off the break with a turbo/injector upgrade program. BTW for you 550s might be over kill 370s and JWT is more than enough support into the low 400hp range

heres the site me and Max od put together, might help a bit, hasn't been updated in a while though

my only concern with not putting the 300zx engine in was the pistons. i took the heads off of each engine and the turbo engine has dished pistons while the maxima engine has flat top pistons with very small "valve" grooves. i'm not sure what kind of effect each piston has but i myself opted for the engine swap since i got a "low mileage" jdm engine. also, incase i blow this one somehow, i'll have an extra engine standing by incase. i can also build up the maxima engine while i just drive the turbo engine around, which is another cool plus.

whatever you feel like doing is up to you though.

now... this is the sad thing.... i just talked to Dixit (BigDogJonx) and he says that I can't do it since the stock 300zx turbo is too small and would be too restrictive. Now, wouldn't it be good for at least ~205hp (stock 300zx hp #'s)?

the stock 300zx turbo is good for 10 psi non-intercooled and 14 psi intercooled. i'm not sure what numbers you'll get since you'll have a higher compression ratio though.

ummmmm...not really! show me all of the Z31s running 12 psi that have blown their rods?? people need to do a little more research into the VG30ET before they post info like that.

do what? the stock internals are good for 300 hp if i remember correctly. that engine will be fine with the turbo. it's not that restrictive. it just a smaller turbo that runs out of steam really quick.

yes...but heres the deal...most likely the turbo that comes with the motor will be blown or on its way. don't bet on using it for very long! just start fresh with something new, Z manifolds will fit up with most any T3

yeah, most of the those stock turbos are turning to crap. I found one in good condition with about 60k miles on it for 150 dollars so it should last me long enough to get a bigger, better turbo. You can usually find T3/T4's on ebay for a good price. For our engines you generally want a turbo with a .63 turbine wheel. Those spool pretty well on our engines and don't run out of steam too quick.

What i mean about running out of steam really quick is those turbos start getting inefficient above 14-15 psi. If you try going higher than that you'll either only gain 1 or 2 hp or you'll actually start to loose power due to so much heat being made. When you get a bigger turbo they are more efficient and can make higher pressures without getting too hot.
