Need Advice about BOV

Ok I need some help in the definition and application of BOV's. I know that have that cool sound, but what performance difference do any 2 BOV's have? I also was wondering how it effects the Waste gate. My understanding is that the wastegate allows exhaust to flow around the turbo if there is too much boost, and that the BOV just relieves the boost if it exceedes a calibrated point. Do I misunderstand this? A representative of a performance company was telling me that ian aftermarket BOV helps the car reach its peak boost quicker because it has a stronger spring. thanks in advance.

ok..lets say you set your boost at 8 psi...if it reaches 8, the wastegate will open up letting some exhaust out so that your boost wont go over 8 psi..the BOV just releases the charge air when you let go of the gas..so that the charged air wont flow back in the turbo messing it up...

In general, the wastegate lets out the exhaust once the boost level on the set spring spring is reached. Once that boost level is reached, it vents all the extra exhaust into the air or back into the down-pipe of the turbo, depending on application. Without this, the turbo would keep spooling and boom boom engine.

The BOV acts as a safety for the turbo. When you are boosting with all that air and you go to shift or let off the throttle, your throttle plate fully closes. If you have all this air hitting the throttle plate, it bounces off of it and runs back to the turbo. This excess air over time will DESTROY the turbo. The BOV just simply releases all this air so no harm will come to the turbo.

I have the HKS SSQ and I LOVE it. It is loud, has a nice higher pitch to it, and it WILL NEVER leak, unlike the infamous Greddy and sometimes the Blitz as well.......

It gives a loud PSHHHH like you said, no pulses.

Although this topic has been beaten over and over.. everyone should bookmark this. I'm glad this has finally been set up.

Now everyone can tell the difference between one BOV and the other.
