In the other thread for red/clears, what happened to all those people that wanted RX330 style clear/chrome taillights? Here they are...
Personally I like the clear/chrome ones, just have to figure out a tasteful way to mold in some red reflectors in the back...

The lights themselves DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE REFLECTORS! There just has to be red reflectors on the rear/rear sides of the car (same goes with the front and the amber lenses)...

Look at the picture of the RX330. It has a red reflector that is visibly red even when not illuminated. Now if we swap out our lights for all clear lights, we lose our red reflector. No our third brake light and spoiler light lenses don't count even though they are red. THOSE ARE NOT REFLECTORS. There is a different between lenses and reflectors. The reflector portion lights up when light hits it without needing to be illuminated itself. Think reflectors on a bicycle.

there isnt one and that is my point. the back of a car MUST have something that REFLECTS red. ours is in the brake light so you CANNOT make it all clear it unless you add a reflector somewhere else
maybe something like this.

you can get it at http://www.bikepartsusa.com/ for $2

Even then the lights are not DOT or SAE approved and therefore technically still illegal to have.

clear corners is one this. but on the back!!! it is WAY to obvious!!! you would get pulled over your first time out. and its red for a reason, i would be afraid someone would hit me.

Hello? McFly?? Did you even read my post? I said that reflectors are still required...
And who's to say that adding custom reflectors to the Maxima bumper wouldn't suffice for the legal definition? There are legally sold aftermarket red and amber reflectors available, so if you did decide to modify the rear 5th Gen tail lights and added these DOT legal and approved aftermarket reflectors, you would be just fine (that's according to the NHSTA guidelines, and translated as such). They would have to slightly wrap around to the sides too, IIRC, but that may not be necessary on our 5th Gens (some models wrap, like the new RX. Other don't have too...)

My comment was not directed toward you, but the people that posted after you that obviously cannot comprehend the concept of a "red reflector". Sorry if it sounded like I was attacking you.
Anyways, even if we get a rear red reflector, red LED lights, etc, I don't believe the lamps have the DOT/ SAE stamp on them. Therefore although meeting all DOT/ SAE requirements, they still don't have DOT/ SAE approval.
wow those are really sharp! i'd definately go with those if i had a 5th gen. i'd either paint the top part of the circle red like some have said or just put some sort of reflective tape around my license plate frame, or something. those aren't a bad price either!

Hopefully this reflector issue is now cleared up for everyone, so we don't have to keep answering it in over & over in 3 threads...
Also, like it was said previously, no matter what you do, these lights will be illegal when it comes down to it since they are not DOT/SAE approved...
