Greddy EVO Exhaust is too loud...

Anyone know how to quiet it down?

Bought it for my wife's 2001 Maxima since the OEM rusted off. The new Greddy is about as loud as the car was with no muffler.

Called Stillen, whom I purchased it from, and they say I cannot return it, but can have a muffler shop add a C-Clamp to the pipe or weld another resonator in place.

Anyone know what they are referring to?

I wish I just bought a stock exhaust...sounds like I've got a Cessna plane in the trunck at 60MPH on the highway.

Sorely dissappointed and wife is mad at me

Any help?

Thanks,

ldp001

put a resonator in, that should quiet it down. Other possibility is to chop off the greddy muffler and have a quiet one welded on in place. Either would work

It sucks since I just spent $570 just 3 weeks ago for this system and don't really want to spend another $100 quieting it down...I even asked the salesperson if it was going to be loud. His answer was no louder than stock.

Anyone want to swap a new stock exhaust for it, or a used stock exhaust (in perfect shape) plus a bit of cash?

that's odd...my EVO is just as quiet as my stock exahust, with some droning at the 2k rpm range, above and below that it's rather quiet.

if you had a resonator (you should have one though, but you can always add more) it will definitely drop the sound by a lot.

Yes, it is quiet other than the droning around 2k rpms. Being an automatic, cruising at 65-70 on the highway makes the engine turn at 2k rpms. It is quiet otherwise.

A 2 hour highway drive last night yielded a severe headache. So annoying.

Thanks,

Larry

Your best bet and cheapest way is probably to cut off the "muffler section" and have the shop weld a quieter muffler on it, thats what I would of done if I was in your situation.

And, about your wife being mad at you, well......I guess no sex for you for 3 months

Try the HKS, it doesn't drone at all.
But it still a bit louder and deeper tone than the Greddy.

How's $250 plus you're used (good condition) exhaust...provided the 2k3 will fit the 2k1. We can even swap at my house and get it all done at once.

According to Greddy's web site, this exhaust will fit '99-current models.

Let me know....

Thanks.

He has a Automatic. HKS Drones more on Autos then the Greddy on the Hwy

TitaniumMax03. The Greddy is the same part for 00-03. If your car is Federal Emissions YOu will need a Bung welded on that B Pipe. If its Cali Spec you are in business.

just to let you guys know, i did the trade a while back and DO NOT ship it UPS or Fedex, it will cost around 200 to ship it with those companies... contact your local greyhound and they will ship it for around 60 dollars.

I get a drone around 2.5 rpm.... other than that no compaints

Not to make war but I love my Greddy and everything about it. Plus I have the Cattman y-pipe which makes it louder. DO NOT cut the greddy off to put another one on that's a waist of money. Do the trade your Greddy for the other guys stock muffler plus some $$$. It will fit. It's what's in front of the cat that is different.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds great at RPMs higher than 2K. Being an automatic, it seems that the engine will always run at 2K RPMs, whether I'm doing 70 on the highway or 40 around town. If it were a 5-speed, I could keep the RPMs above 2K and have no problem.

I had an APEXi on my '95 Supra TT and that muffler sounded AWESOME...ugly as hell, but sounded great at all RPMs (was a 6-speed though). I thought I could get away with a performance exhaust on my wife's Maxima...but it ain't working out.

I'm completely open to trade ideas, make an offer (reasonable please).

I'm going to have to buy a stock exhaust (like $350) and just sell the Greddy on Ebay or thepartstrader. We could both benefit if you're looking for a Greddy cat-back with like 250 miles on it. Paid $570 plus $45 to ship from Stillen.

Any takers?

As long as the rest of the exhaust is stock the Evo catback shouldn't be loud at all... are you sure there's not an exhaust leak?

My Stillen rear valance is somewhat customed.....my greddy muffler was touching the rear valance and made it's own round shape but my muffler is so dirty from plastic that was melting from the rear valance. I didn't like the sound of my greddy when I had CustomMaxima's Straight Pipe but now since I replaced my SP to RT Cat it sounds so much better and it seems like it performs diff too.....I got Stillen Y's , RT cat, and Greddy EVO.......I like the sound
