is my car louder? PLEASE HELP!!!!

hey guys....I have 95 auto gle with 45k on it. yes'day i drove my friends 95 auto se
with 35k on it that he just bought. his car shifts into gear much smoooother then
mine and also is quieter then mines. with my car i notice a jerk everytime i step on
it and when i changes the gear. also i notice his car is more quieter(the engine, not
exhaust) then mines. what you guys think, is that any thing i could do to make my
car shift smoothly and make it quiet? please help. thanx in advance
