stealthy, non rice exhaust...

My only performance mods are going to be an intake and exhaust. My intake question has been answered so now its all about the exhaust. I am going for the sleeper look and sound but a pedal with a bit more. Ive heard that the stock maxima muffler is pretty descent and I know it keeps the noise to a hush (i hate loud exhausts). I have a 2K max btw. I was thinking a new y-pipe, high flow cat, and new piping back to the muffler (possibly getting rid of the resonator). Does this sound like it would be effective in a cost/performnce standpoint? I think I would get just as much with this setup as I would with a fartcan. My question within a question is about the resonator... Is this one like the muffler in that it is pretty good, do I need one (noise), or will I not tell a difference either way? Thanks

See I always thought the resonator would quiet down the car, but after installing a custom catback w/ a Budget b-pipe and Powertech muffler I hated the loud *** honda exhaust. They told me if I took the resonator off it would give me a deeper sound, but I just removed the muffler and put my stock back on. Then got Magnaflow tips welded on. I have a 2k2 and just with the b-pipe my car growls all that I want. If I were you just go w/ a y and b-pipe with resontator. Pull all that with your stock muffler and get some tips welded on it you don't want a whippy looking exhaust. You sound like me and this may be all the noice you really want. Because it may not be that loud from the outside, but inside the cabin the noice was almost unbearable w/ the powertech. Just look at my homepage for pics of my setup.

ive got a cattman y pipe, custom b pipe to stock muffler with no resonator. the only difference in sound can be heard at idle when the car is cold. it burbles a little more but you cant hear anything from in the cabin and i cant hear anything over the intake when i slam on it. its cheaper to not have a resonator so i say try without it and for some reason you dont like it, you can always have one put in. with the stock muffler in place, it is really hard to hear any difference.

That ie pretty much what I have. Cattman Y-pipe, RT (self)gutted CAT, Cattman B-pipe nad the factory muffler. Had a CAI and you could here that over the exhaust. Now with the SC it is still about the same, except the intake is alittle more quieter.

just have an exhaust shop cut it out and replace with either a custom b pipe or just what you removed with the resonator out.

cost me $40 back for 2.25 pipe to the part where the axel over is split. i think the resonator would have put it up to 80. it was done at meineke.
