Tie-Rods clunking

I have a 1995 Max with 118,000 miles on it and when I turn the wheel to go in my driveway the front end makes a clunking sound. It's not very loud but, noticable. What price should I expect to pay if the tie-rods are bad?

Thanks

Are you sure its the tie rods?
My '95 makes clunking while turning (especially from a stop, say at a stop sign) and I know for a fact that my CV joint is shot. I just bought it in this condition and its not being driven yet until I change it.

I pretty sure it's a tie rod. A bad CV joint will make a clicking noise.

Could also be a bad upper strut mount....my right side was making a popping sound on turns, and it was the mount, so you may wanna check that out.

And yes, CV joints make a click type sound.

Just lift the car and support it securely, grab the tire from the bottom and top and see if it moves or not. Next, grab the tire from the front and back and see if it moves or not (should feel movement if the tie rod is bad). You may need to use some force for this test. If you see grease inside wheel well and the inside of the wheel ,your Cv joins may be dead.As in your post,it may be the tie rod if it clunks. They are not hard to replace ,but an alignment would be recomanded after. As for now, your tires may be already bad because the tie rod problem.

If you are absolutely sure that its your tie rods then might have to replace your whole rach and pinion unless its just the boots that are torn. Replacing the rack and pinion ain't no joke I tried replacing mine and about 1.5 hours later, I turned back and to it to a shop. It took the guy about two hours that day and about 4 hours the next to complete. But mine where both pretty badly beaten up.
