Has anyone put in a remote starter themselves?Did you have to buy a bypass unit to not trigger the ignition kill switch when turning on the starter.Cause Audio King said they had to do that.Can I just buy a remote starter from Wal*Mart and install myself?Please help me with installation steps.

 

im also wonderin how i can do this. does anyone know which wires are the ignition wires cuz i cant figure it out..

 

You have to bypass the ignition kill. Go to a stereo shop and buy the correct bypass module. Best thing is to let the shop do it for you. It is not easy, You can damage a lot of stuff. I put a viper in mine and it works great. Also with bypass module you will lose a key with the install because the key is placed inside the bypass module to repeat the code when remote starting. Let someone else do the install for ya.

 

no you do not have to bypass the ignition kill I installed my remote starter without bypassing the alarm. I have a 95 and the 95 and 96 are just alike. what you do need to remember is that there is 2 ignition wires and 2 starter wires some remote starters only come with wiring for 1 starter wire you have to get a seperate relay. if you need wire diagram and color chart go to bulldogsecurity.com and click on wire diagrams and then put in your cars yr, make, and model. all of your ingintion wires are underneath the steering column get a multimeter and start checking each wire that match the wire color chart. the install is long but not completely hard.

 

dunno bout 96's but i had to in my '99.

 

Remember the difference between 95-98 and 99s guys, as far as the ignition, We 99s have a chip in our key, pre99s dont...

the starter that I have is a bulldog the one that is sold in most stores like Wal Mart and they are pretty easy to install and bulldogs website is very helpful and so is their customer support. the most important tool you can buy along with the supplied tools in the kit is a multimeter. If you have any questions feel free to ask. My remote starter has worked perfect ever since I got it and now I'm upgrading to one the has the double pulse unlock capability since my factory keyless entry has stopped working.

 

also bulldog says that you can wire both starter wires to the one relay that is provided for added safety it is best to purchase another relay from an audio store or radio shack. they are not hard to figure out the directions are pretty plain and simple.
