IMPORT DUAL : 97 Maxima vs 01 Civic SI - Video Inside

Hey,

Tried my hand at putting a small drag racing video together. Went out to the local dragway over the weekend and did some racing. Raced a Honda Civic Si and turns out we were very closely matched.

Watch the Import Dual " Best out of 3 Runs Wins "

97 Nissan Maxima Se vs. 01 Honda Civic Si

: About the file: The file is wmv ( windows media player) and is around 5 megs. Which means High Speed users will enjoy a quick download but 56 k modem users will have a bit of download time. So if your 56k download or save target as and go have lunch !! LOL

Enjoy !!

Nice runs. Do you know what mods the Civic had?

I like the way your Max sounds, that roar is just great. In the same token, I can stand that fart-can Civic sound.

Good to see you took it though. Good runnin'

01Si? Went to EDMUNDS and they don't even list a 01 Si, also no hatchback in 01. What did he have that he beat you. I can barely tell the difference between his exhaust and yours, change that **** bro...

exhaust

i have all but given up on the vq and anykind of cool exhaust sound .. if my car is coming towards you i sound tough, but as soon as im past, and the muffler is in your face ..the evil bees and drone are in your face! i dont know what to do about it .. EXCEPT deal with it ! ha ha !

also: the year model must be a 03 instead of 01 ... i was guessing and must admit Im not studied up on my civic hatchbacks like i should be .. sorry about that !

That was a 2000-down civic HB. There was no SI in 01, and even the 99-00 SI's never came in HB form. Guessing a hatch with a B16 swap. Good racing though.

no '01 Si Hb exists... and if that hatchback had a B16 or B18 engine, the max is smoked...the HB is som much lighter and with the Si engine,, damn,, we're screwed.

Man, I'm so surprised so many people don't know their Civics. That's the prior Civic hatch and it was only available with a 106hp D16. This model Civic hatch weighed in around 2600lbs. The one in the video probably had the typical B16 swap judging from his 93-94mph trap speeds. Most us that know our Hondas don't fear the B16/B18C swaps unless the Honda is gutted and running slicks. Most B16 Civic hatches are lucky to get mid 14s. The B16 only makes 160hp in stock form and it makes 100fwtq. Even with a light car, it isn't much power. Launch means everything to these cars and without drag tires, they're really not that quick.

It really doesn't surprise me that those Civic's with swaps without major guttage aren't all they're cracked up to be. They rely so heavily on torque multiplication via short gearing but there's hardly any torque to multiply when they're N/A. Maybe if they swapped in the SI's tranny with the shorter gearing they would be faster.

It is always wise to know your competition. There way to many people in here that think many cars are slow........which really aren't.

H22 quickly solves that problem and as fars as B16 swaps go they are matched with short gear trannys to begin with (Ys1,s1 and I think the J1)

I never see anybody with major engine work, or any work, done here in Chicago. It's allways body kit and nasty wheels galore here. Stepping on the gas is enough even with a ****ed KS...

Yeah, you really need to know your competetion. My friends running either a b16A or B (the JDM one) in his 96 hatch and his car moves. Hes also running an Apex'i N1 cat back, GSR headers, and we're an even match (me using no spray). With his cams he has in his garage and n2o he just put on, we'll be an even better race spraying....

But ceasar, good videos man, i always enjoy watching your videos and such, seems you get to the dragway alot. The drag is a miserable 1 and a half hours away from me. And i always work when they have big events scheduled...

Keep posting those kick-*** videos man!!

Aren't the guys that do some serious mods to the VW VR6 in Chicago? Turbos/SC etc.... I know Chicago has some big power players. Every city has them.

Sound Performance the Supra tuner is in chicago. They have two 9 second street legal supras. I don't know of any big VW tuners in chicago though, but there very well may be some because I'm not into VWs at all.

okay im still not sure which civic it is and at this point the video is going to stay with 2003 .. lol i made some changes and increased the picture and sound quality .. also in the 6th gen forum there are lots of people talking about mustangs. im going to put several videos up i have of mustang footage.. so check it out i will post the link in here , and check out the new improved import dual ..ha ha ! just switched to a 1394 firewire, was using usb cable

also, i have been recording at every track, im getting lots of footage. its cool , like you guys say to... know the competition, so when you see the cars again, you know a bit about them .. im watching the mustang gt's because im working to get as fast as them. so im trying to achieve 14.0 ! there is a mustang on every road around here and whether its a 16 second v6 or a 14 second gt ...they need to be taken down !! ha ha !

Im sure Neal has owned a few !!!

Here's a good quote that I got from another forum, "Never race Civics. They're either too fast or too slow." Whether or not that's actually true, still funny as hell.

Thats pretty damn true, their was a an H22 swapped hatch all motor pullin 13.4s in my town...They can be made scarily fast for what they are, most of the time though, they are just riced up slow cars, its just the hatches you really have to keep your eye out for...

take him into the twisties and he'll slow down real quick...
H22s in most HBs = a heap of dead weight in turns

There is a shop in chicago by I.P and Elston that has a red Supra(rear chrome wheels, front not chrome), red maxima, and a red VW parked in front every day. I don't race much on the streets, only when deserted, so I guess I need not worry...

Completely agree with that statement. Saw a true 2000 Civic SI coupe with exhaust/intake/headers and smoked'em. Saw a 92-95 h/b and got smoked. He had a turboed GSR engine. The guy with the fast car had the Z3 fenders and C/F hood, looks can be deceiving I guess.

Great vid. What were the times for the first run.

'01 SI's?? The EK3 SI's were only 99-00. and '03 was the first year of the new chassis.

Nice Video. That is a sixth generation (96-00) Civic, and there is no way it is an Si. Those hatches in the sixth generation only had the D series motor....so the one in that video if it was n/a had to have been a swap. Probably a B16 as Dave mentioned or maybe a B18 or h22, as these are the common swaps (though he may have beat you bad with the latter).
