Delayed shift from 2nd to 3rd in 2k auto transmission?

recently my automatic 2k has started giving me a weird shift (from 2nd to 3rd gear, i believe) when at WOT.

it is like a real long and drawn-out shift, instead of a quick shift like to other gears. it starts to make the shift and then hesitates or gets hung mid way through for maybe 3 seconds before going into the next gear.

anyone else have this? problem...or just normal?

thanks in advance

it sounds like tranny slip. how many miles do you have on your 2k?

Check the TSB, there is one for that issue. Get the dealer to fix it if its still under warranty.

i'm out of warranty...so i'll see how much that one is going to set me back. wonder if NOT getting it fixed will damage anything?

Its going to be a costly install, the solenoids on the valvebody if I remember correctly DaveB priced them to me for about 300something then told me the whole new valvebody was like 400something. I may be totally off, but I remember for sure the solonoids alone were in the 300range. Then whatever labor it costs to get it done.

It will eventually damage the tranny cause it creates issues with the clutches.

Ahh.....why would u be wondering if this is under warranty or not? It is under warranty...you and all of us have a powertrain warranty up to 50k miles...

Not only that but...given there's a TSB out for this, it will be hard to argue it's not really caused by a factory defect...

My tranny went out at 48K and Nissan installed a better one and it has been fine since, it sounds about right that at the mileage you're at now that your problem has started the same as mine did.

Go ahead and get the tranny checked first and then replaced, it could be something simple. My car did the same as yours and my tranny just up and died one day shortly after the problems started.

Trannys aren't cheap, it would be about 3K for a new one and about another 1.5K to get it installed, so be safe and do it why you are still under warranty.

if it comes down to this, you can get used trannys for real good prices. a quick search on car-parts.com showed my auto tranny w/lsd for 900 and only 16k on it. i would take it to nissan and explain the problem. i would also state that you just became aware of the tsb and explain to them they can either do the tsb or face replacing a tranny under the 60k. they want more the tranny to go out though cause it will be alot more labor involved so more profit for them.
