Coils Say 9Z4 on them??? 2000 Max GLE

Hi,

Just picked up my 2000 GLE Max with 33k miles and one of the first things I did was pop off the trim plate to look at the coils. The car has shown no symptoms of problems, smooth start, smooth idle, smooth acceleration etc. The coils just say 9Z4 in silver on the side of them, I read somewhere that the newer ones should have a silver dot but I don't know if this is confirmed.

Any input, the car will be under dealer warranty for 3000 miles so if they need replacing let me know now!

Thank you,
nhokt

Well, go ahead and prepare yourself on replacing coils. I have a 2000 GLE as well, and cylinder 3 is misfiring; I replaced all the plugs and it is now apparent that the coil is bad. Sadly to say, I've had the car less than 30 days and the problem disgusts me. At times, especially from a cold start, my car shakes like a crackhead and it gets embarassing. None of the auto part stores in town have coils in stock. Nissan wants to charge 175 per coil. I'm gonna tough it out.

Thanks sloppymax, I will look into that, do you replace all or one of them or as needed?

I have no problem doing the coils myself but, the ones on the back of the engine look hard. What do you remove to get to them?

Thanks

ive read and been told to replace all of them because if you put a new one, it will register a higher voltage than the others and then the others tend to go. im not sure as to the validity but i guess it makes sense. besides wouldnt you rather take care of all of them instead of one going bad next month?
you should not have to remove anything to get to them. the only thing that gets in the way is FSTB if you have one. i did my plugs with it on with no problem so the coils shouldnt be a hassle at all.
