This has got to be the worst set of instructions I have ever seen.

Whoever has just installed this, I sure could use any advice and warnings you would care to share.

Honestly, I thought the instructions to be pretty straightforward. It's a pretty big job, if they make no sense at all to you, better take it to a shop to be installed.

How much did the kit cost you including shipping?

That's what you pay for when you only spend $50 on a crappy kit.

Russ.....

Why do you call it a crappy kit? Do YOU have one? But you probably know someone who does right. In case you didn't know the trans go kit is all the parts to upgrade the VB....but you do the labor yourself. Don's is probably simmilar but he's doing the labor. GET IT? Steve C from Chicago has this same kit in his 4th gen auto S/C thats running....ummm..low 13's. But yea....the kits crappy cuz you say so.

Re: Russ.....

yes Russ makes ignorant comments on something he doesn't know about. the instructions are very straight forward..best to go to a shop.

I have never been past the filter of an a/t, but I've rebuilt 3 manual trannies, so I think I can handle this.

Maybe once I have the vb apart, things will be clearer. I guess some of the things that concern me are:
1. Instructions on page 1 indicate the placement of 5 steel *****. It says do not use plastic *****. Are the existing ***** plastic and do I need to buy some check ***** before I tear down the vb?
2. Is the template for drilling the main plate to scale?
3. How did you drill the 3/64" hole in the valve body? Did you drill it at an angle from the right?
4. Why is the line solenoid shown on page 2? Is there any work to be done to it?

Re: bigtexan7

1. there should be steel *****..if they are plastic then replace them w/ steel *****. they provide a few to you. actually i don't think check ***** are plastic for the maxima.
2. they give u the EXACT (range) measurement
to drill. follow that range.
3. you drill into the plate between the two halves of the VB. drill straight. it's like punching a hole in the sheet metal.
4. last i check the solenoids were attached to the VB. you may want to replace them if your tranny high mileage. make sure you get new O rings and etc.

someone correct me if i'm wrong here...but it looks straight forward.

Turbo95Max, Candiman, and I did a 3rd gen last weekend. Let me see if I can answer some of your questions...
1) The steel ***** should've came with your kit.
2) Follow what drill bit they say to use.
3) Candiman called TransGo and they told him he can drill from any angle and as long as it goes through, it should be fine.
4) No idea... need to see a picture.

Make sure you keep track of what bolt goes in where because they are different lengths. Good luck!

I guess my biggest concerns were the hole to be drilled in the vb and the steel *****. The pictures in the instructions are great, I just expected more detailed written instructions.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help.

1. Not to worry, all check ***** inside my 4th gen were steel. you can reuse them without problem.
2. Template is almost to scale. When you have it in front of you, it will be clear.
3. Yes, I drilled it at an angle from the right.
4. I think the solenoid was just there for orientation sake. Check to see that o-rings are intact when you reinstall.

A HELPFUL TIP:

Before you reinstall the VB, squirt trans fluid in and around all valves and work them back and forth by hand a little. When you open it up, all fluid is lost and I wiped mine dry to make it easier to work with. Just make sure you lube it back up before reinstalling otherwise you may have to drive around for a while to get them to break open so the car will shift.

Thanks BigTexan7

I don't know if I will get to install it this week-end, it's the start of Mardi Gras here. I'll drink a beer in your honor!

No pics because we didn't have a camera... and our hands were greasy. The difference isn't as huge as Don's VB mod. I've participated in the TransGo kit and have witnessed Don's recalibration process from start to finish... I have to say that they are two totally different processes.

I've never taken a ride in Candiman's 3rd gen before, so I can't say the shifts improved or not. When we took a test drive, he said he noticed a difference, but the hard shifts won't really come out until VB is broken in.

Want us to do your VB? Hmmmm... maybe?
