Replace oem parts with refurbished?

Just wondering, whenever a component breaks, are the parts refurbished or brand new?

I just had my bose headunit replaced, and it now says "CD ERR FO" Called the dealer and they said they would order a new one. I was thinking...if it is new to begin with, shouldn't it work? While changing the headunit, they managed to scratch up the temperature control screen right below the head unit. They said they will order a new one too. I was wondering...since they stopped making 03's, wouldn't it be impossible to get new parts like those?

I was told by the nissan service guy that any nissan car that is under one year old, they use "new" parts... Anyone have any takes on that?

As far as the radio goes, mine was replaced with a refurbished one. I'd assume other parts would follow the same route.

Car makers always keep a certain percentage stock of spare parts for each year of each model line. The 5th gens shouldn't have to worry about running out of new spare parts any time soon.

Electronic parts, however, can be a different issue on how they decide to replace them. I'm not sure about car companies, but I've worked in the computer industry long enough to know that when you call for service and they replace parts, it is more likely for you to get a refurbished part than a brand new part. Cheaper turnaround time this way...a broken part comes in to the service center, it gets fixed up, someone else has the same broken part, the refurbished part goes out to that person. The company doesn't have to waste any time this way ordering and waiting for things from some supplier. It's an unfortunate cycle, but that's the way it works for many industries.

Peace.

I would say, unless you see a part come out of a SEALED bag, its prolly refurbed...

I know the HUs are refurbed...

Yeah I figure :-( I will never have a properly working head unit eh? Also...I really hope the ac control won't be refurbished. Anyone with the head unit problem get it replaced and is now working properly?

I've seen several people here have their headunits replaced two or three times. But since the 03's came out i haven't seen as many complaints about them.

Mine is still sealed in the plastic bag it came with. I installed an aftermarket unit while waiting for the replacement OEM to come in.

How's the sound quality with the kenwood hu on the bose speakers? Do your controls on the steering wheel work?

By the way soundmike, I have like the first model 03's. Mine was manufactured in April 2002. That's why I have a lot of 2002 problems in my car.

You can get the PAC SWI-X controller to keep the steering wheel controls functional. They run anywhere from $50-$65 online.

I know how it feels about early production models. I got my '02 in August of 2001. What wonders me though is how my MAF has survived this long w/o a hitch (knock on wood hehehe)

dude..seriously, it is like 100% better than the stock HU..first off, it's a bit louder....secondly, there are ACTUAL highs which was negative with stock....thirdly, there are MIDs, which was also negative with stock

forthly, Sirius FM modulated sucks crazy donkey *****....its night and day with it connected thru a sirius ready HU....

if you are like me and enjoy your music crisp and loud, this is your best bet w/o having to shell out big bux on a complete new system

(yes with shietty a$$ Bose, you gotta replace IT ALL if you want total quality-incl speakers, speaker wire, HU, amp)

Yeah, I wanted the MB quart speakers, with 2 rockford subs, 1 amp and an eclipse head unit. When I found out the cost (nearly 3000), I started to cry. Too much money to spend for a car when in 5 years, it will be worth jack.
