Is it safe to drive long distance with a bad coil?

I'm asking because it SOMETIMES, from a cold start vibrates hard and the remainder of the day, it runs fine. Today, it ran perfectly; no vibrations at all due to the bad coil and this was from each crank (about 4 cranks today); I thought i'd ask since it doesn't run rough at all times.
