To answer the only part of your question that is not covered in that thread, but is covered in othe threads if you searched...a sealant like Klasse or even (yuck) Zaino will be good for lngevity in the winter months, although you really should probably have it detailed or try to throw another coat of wax over the sealant mid winter. My Ardex wax seemed to last most of last winter and Klasse claims a year, but I haven't tried it yet.

I got my new 2K2 just over a year ago. I live in Wi. After I had it about 4 months, I used a clay bar, then polished with Menzerna, then used Klasse AIO and many coats of Klasse SG. I top it off with P100 wax. It still looks new...I get compliments all the time.

There are many different products that peeps use. Just browse this forum and you will discover a bunch of useful info.

Cozz, I am a person who hails from Chicago. I have to endure the same things that you do in winter. What I recommend is getting a good polymer like Klasse, Blackfire, or Zaino. The advantage to that is the polymers are more durable against the elements.

In addition, you might want to consider a wax like S100, Blitz, P21S, or Souveran as a topper to add depth on your polymer.

No doubt Prinz I will try the ploymer with a nice couple of top coats of wax. I think that will hold me through the winter B/C I am thinking about getting it garaged near my house so i dont have to park on the street. Thanks for the advice. Do you think it is poinless to polish a brand new car?

I polished my black 2K2 at about 4 months with Menzerna and a Porter Cable orbital. I was amazed at the difference it made. It added a lot of depth to the color. Highly recomended....just use a very non abrasive polish.

The orbitals are quite safe to use. The key is making sure you are using the correct pad and polish for the situation.

I have seen Blues' car up close and personal and the orbitals do a very good job.

Thanks, Prinz!!

I love the Porter Cable. As Prinz said, they are very safe for your finish. No chance of doing any damage. (the non-orbitals that the pros use can do significant damage if you're inexperienced!)

That thread Prinz linked is pretty good. One of the bare basics are to make sure that you're doing things safely whenever you touch your car. This includes things like dusting, but washing technique and all materials that ever touch your paint are critical to keeping your black paint pristine.

Other than keeping it (and the wheels) clean, just be sure to keep it regularly waxed as a minimum. How often will depend on the environment, what wax you choose, and how you store/park your car.

Proper care will ensure you that any polishing you will need in the future will be relatively mild because there won't be much damage to correct.

Actually new paint shouldn't be waxed for about 3 months. It's too soft. You could mess it up if you do mess with it. Automotive paints have to go through a curing/hardening process. Just wash it and enjoy how pretty it is for a while. I would even leave it alone for the first 6 months if I were you. Just washing it every too weeks will protect your paint. It'll keep anything from setting into your paint.

That's only if the car has been repainted by a body shop.

FACTORY applied paint is 100% cured and ready to be waxed. What do you think those rip-off "paint protection sealant package" that dealers sell are?

Sam, you could get Zaino or Klasse for a fraction of the cost and get the same results or better. My Klasse cost me $40 as opposed to the several hundred the dealer forces you to spend for their protection packages. In addition, you have to pay more $$ in order to refresh it every six months.

IMHO, not worth it.
