What Hurricane Isabel did for me!

Here are a couple of pictures of what Hurricane Isabel did for my 6 month old Maxima.

I sure hope that this thing is OK when I get it back. That is a pretty serious repair.

OWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! If I were you, I'd take the declaration of the car being totalled and get something else! You know that car will NEVER be the same again, even if it was restored back to new as can be!

Good thing you weren't in the car when that happened. I remember when someone was in a car when a tree fell on their car from a storm. That person wasn't lucky as you!!!

Please don't have your car repaired! Take the money from the insurance and get a new Maxima. That car will never be the same, as hard as thay try. Have the insurance get you another one.

You convince his insurance company to total his car and buy him a new one.

Isabel, dropped a nice tree branch on my car while driving down the road. Instead of a nice small limb, it appeared that the electric company left a nice 2ft 10lbs log in the tree which launched on my roof creating 2 dents. Sorry about the car. It makes my problem seem small.

The car was not totaled, it was about $3k short of a total loss. I was under the impression that I had gap insurance but the agent did not add it when I got the car. If it had been totaled I would have had to come up with about $5k to pay it off. The guy who is fixing it is a friend of mine, and says I will be satisfied. Time will tell, hope to have it back by the end of next week.

Who the hell is your insurance company? Does it have any frame damage? Any frames bent? Even if it is bent a little, then it is considered a total loss. From my four eyes, IT IS TOTALED.

By the way...look on the bright side...your car will run a quarter mile faster now...i'm estimating in the low 13's. Without any mods!

You guys saying it's totalled and "will never be the same" really don't know what you are talking about.

First of all, it's not "frame". It's "unibody". How can explain this? Humans have a frame. Insects have an unibody. Anyhoo.

It will ON'Y be totalled if the cost of the repair exceeds a preset limit on the value of the car. ie... 70% of $18,000 or so. You can't "tell" the insurance to "total" the car. Not with the arguments you guys present anyway.

Now, the only real damage is the roof. The roof is just an stiffening piece and it looks like it was made to be removed relatively easy. As seen in the pictures. Not of the structure that has to deal with how it runs(engine) and how it drives(suspension) is really affected. As long as the shop does a 1/2 decent job with the repair, the car will be fine. The only sad thing is the areas that will be repainted aren't areas that get chipped anyway. The rest of the bent areas can be pulled into specification fine.

Didn't the car suffer from interior damage, i.e. water?

The damage was to the roof, the right rear door, the right front fender, and hood will all be replaced. The doors all opened and closed fine, so there should be no problem with the unibody. There was rain that came in the rear window but they claim that once it is cleaned you won't be able to tell it.

Well I think your car will turn out better this way instead of let's say you hitting a tree with the nose of the car and the car being $3,000 shy of a total. I wouldn't think that this type of damage would affect the way your car drives. There should not be any frame damage like there might be in a collision. That's one way to look at it. I really hope everything turns out for you. Be gratefull you are not injured

man lucky my dads shop is also a first server body shop so my dads estimate goes and when he had to turn in an estimate for my 2k2 that was totalled we just punched a hole in the oil pan and boom i get a new car the week after. besides my suspension was so jacked up my wheel broke off the control arm and struts andthe struts fell off the passenger side so most of the damage was int eh suspensions and the entire passenger side felt the tree real well
