New guy, Alternator talk and Stereo ??'s

Ok guys I am new here I have a 1983 280ZX Turbo project going on so I got my new 1992 Maxima GXE Auto as a daily driver. I used to own a 87 300zx NA which has the same motor as the 3rd gen Maxima except for the SE DOHC motor so I know where to get cams etc. just look for aftermarket engine stuff for a 84-89 300zx and see if it'll work....

Alternator stock on our car is 90-95 amps. you can get a alternator from a 96 maxima for an upgrade to 125 amps. Also if your near a junkyard and need an alternator quick you can use a 240SX alternator (As long as it has factory fog lights its 95 amps)

Reason for this is I just added 1 JL 12" sub with a 250 watt amp and my presumably aging stock alternator toasted itself trying.....and the parts guy didnt believe I could use the 96 maxima alternator for the extra juice.....oh ya you may have to swap/shim pulleys on the alternators...

Now if someone cares to help me is there a writeup or someone knowledgeable to tell me how easy/hard it is to remove my rear drums and add some disc brakes?

Also on the cars with the 4x6 speakers in the door what have you done to upgrade? I believe I saw somewhere someone opened up the factory mounting plate to accept a 5x7.....The local sound shop said for $100 they can make a plate for 6.5 inch speakers.....Any comments?

6.5" speaker mounts for $100?!?! BWAAHAHAHA! you can do it in about 30 minutes with a piece of 3/4" MDF.

read the FAQs for my writeup on the rear disc conversion.. it's not too hard. remove entire rear strut, swap with parts off an SE. (yes, you gotta pull the whole strut. the spindle part at the bottom is longer on the disc version. wheel bearings won't spin if you don't).
swap parking brake cables over, and you're done. pretty easy stuff.

I'll have to check out the brackets on the VQ alternator, but I've been told they're different. had a parts store pull the ones off the VE and VG before. I know they're different. ($100 worth of difference at that!)

oh.. and Welcome!
