Getting rid of the raspy tone to an exhaust?

My exhaust sounds awesome at idle, but after you step on it it starts to sound raspy from the outside. Like a Civic with a fart cannon, only a lot deeper. lots of resonation. A have a 24" resonator and dual straight through mufflers (canister style). I love how the car looks, but do I need to change mufflers to get rid of the rasp?

Get a flowmasters delta 50/60 series (3 chambered) muffler. It will clean up the sound a lot, you will like. All those straight through rice mufflers will just give you the ting ting tah-tah ting ting tiiiiiiiing sound.

Are you running a test pipe or cat? If it's a test pipe and it's of the straight through variety, that might be your problem. You can get a resonated one to clean up the sound. I speak from experience.

Replace ur straight thru with dyno max. Much better imo.

I have the stock cat, with no plans to get a straight through. I was deciding between the flowmaster or the dynomax super turbo muffler. Any thoughts on either? Will a bigger muffler like either of these fit? I need two.

should be no prob, just order the correct size .....lenght, width and pipe diameter. Are you running dual sys?

Dynomax is a cheap "turbo" muffler, that will just deaden tone, whereas a Flowmaster 50/60 series Delta will clean up and give a nice tone. If your gonna get a dynomaxx you might as well just put a stocker back on.

Thats right, a nice cheap good quality muffler with good tone and its cheaper than a new oem. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

i got the dynomax 17748 i believe it was. didnt even check into things just heard that was the one to get.

i have an aftermarket exhaust on the car, and when i got the dynomax it turned out not being a center inlet. which meant forcing things to line up right, if it was possible.

we cut off the magnaflow and shoved on the dynomax and reved up the car. at low revs the exhaust was quiter but at high revs it sounded much like the magnaflow ! neither of us liked it enough to force the issue so we boxed it up and shipped it back to the shop.

again im not sure on what all you have going on but the dynomax wasnt a good idea on my max. check the inlets.

craig : any thoughts on a non dual ..flowmaster got anything to clean up my fartcan ?

yes, dual exhaust, with two mufflers. I was just concerned about the drivers side muffler. I might have to angle it if it is too big. I think I will go with the Flowmasters 50/60. Craig - youy have any sound clips of your exhaust? Wheres the best place to pick on of these up?

It should only have a small rasp when it is cold.. I can't recall ever hearing any raspiness when I had the exhaust, you sure it's not the resonator bogging it down and making it sound raspy?

It seemed raspier before the resonator. I had my friend drive the car and when he stepped on it it sounded way to high pitched for my liking. Too much like a Honda. I don't plan on changing the exhaust until spring anyways so I might get used to it.
