WAI with Stock Scoop - Temp Test
WAI with Stock Scoop - Temp Test
There's been a lot of talk about whether or not using the stock air-scoop w/ a WAI does any good, so I decided to try a little test.
As you can see in the pic below, I placed the temp sensor directly in front of the scoop, so that if any air was coming through it would have more of an impact on the sensor.

The thermometer was staying around 60f with the scoop, and 77f without the scoop. I set the cruise control at 70mph for both tests, done on the same stretch of highway (there and back), with an outside temp of 57f.
I had a limited amount of time, so I wasn't really able to get any computed averages, nor was I able to get any idle or varying speed readings. The highest temp I got was 134.5f while at idle for a minute or so (the thermometer takes time to adjust).
So while it's not the most scientific test, it at least shows that there is air flowing in through the scoop.
What I want to do when I get a chance (might not be until next week) is reposition the sensor to be adjacent to the air filter to see if the difference in air temp is merely b/c it was in the path of the fresh air (as the same amount of air might be coming from that space when the scoop isn't there).
