Need to know on a auto, shifts and at what mph.
Can anyone help me. I've gone to the search and read a few post but no answer. Need to know on a 90 se auto w O/D, on a dead stop, when u start driving, I need to know the shifts at what mph from 0 to 50 mph. And another question the O/D button, Do you use that button for regular driving or not? I don't. I just use it for uphill driving. I just wanted to make sure if that button had to be on or off. thanks.
Overdrive should always be used. I believe the only time it's good not to be used is in heavy stop and go traffic.
You said you go up hills with overdrive on? You should be doing the opposite. You see, overdrive is just the 4th gear. Without it on, you are driving with 3 speeds. With it on, it will shift into 4th while driving in order to keep RPM's low and save gas.
If you are going up steep hills and such it is probably best to shift into "2" or maybe even "1".
Also, the shift points on an auto depend on how hard you press the accelerater. If you floor it, the RPMs will almost redline before shifting.
edit - The shift points also depend on if you have the A/T switch in Power or Comfort.
