should I buy this maxima?

Noob here.

Ok ive been waiting for a trade in at work for a while. I really want to find a nice s4, but I think im gona get somethin cheap for now and then sell maybe by spring.
Anyways, the car is a 1999 nissan maxima SE, black on tan, auto, leather, dual pwr seats, bose, power moonroof, spoiler, alloys, clear lights, tint, bla bla. Its in good shape. Ill need to buff the exterior. It has a few scratches, and the rims have a few chips and scuff marks. And it also has 103k on it, which kind of scares me, but i heard its not too bad for those. But i mean, my 93 zj only has 98k. But what do you guys think? I live in RI and will be driving it in the snow. But I know they get mid 20s for gas mileage and its what im looking for. How long do the maximas run? Anybody have any advice. What goes wrong with these cars down the road? Anythin to look for?

Oh btw, we traded the car in for $4900 which is why i was quite interested. I honestly believe its worth around 8000 or maybe more once i clean her up.
I can get the car for around $5500 or so. Whats the most you would pay for it? Good buy or not etc

if the car has been well maintained, she will treat you very nice ! its hard for me to believe that you can get a car this awesome for so little now !

love my 97 !

hmmm, 99 wit 103k fully loaded with descent body? from a dealer? total i would maybe spend 8-9k. No more than 9 though and thats a descent to bad price. 99 is a year that prices have gone up on maxima's, last of the generation and its still around the border but 103k should put value down a little.

i paid 7500 for my 97 used with few mods and 120k. that was last october. Try to talk them down to around 7800, thats an amazing price well worth for that car but 9k isnt bad.

not too shabby, but you can always go lower.

max's (treated well) will go the distance for ya.

That mileage for a Max car is nothing,IF it was properly taken care of. I d look at it very close,to make sure that no body work was done, and if everything looks good I offer 5 Gs. Again,if was well taken care of...Look under the oil cap and see if is nice n clean,or if you see that black junk. My 96 se has 140 k and runs great

let me make myself clearer

I work for the dealer. I can get the car for around 500 over what we got it for. Which is around 5500. So If I can get the car for around that its a real good deal i think. The car has had minor body work in the right rear 1/4. Other than that, I would say the car is in good shape. If i buff it, maybe close to excellent. we'll see. im gona ask for the price today. If its under 6 i think im gona grab it.

My 96 has 115 on the clock....shifts like new, starts perfect and doesn't burn/leak a drop. so don't worry about it. $5500 for a 99 SE/Auto/leather/bose....and you have to ask?

If you work at the dealer don't you think you should know about the maxima? If you work at the dealer shouldn't you know how long maximas run for and that 103k isn't much for that car (you "heard" that its not much)... You should probably know if its a good buy or not, rather than having to ask everyone on a maxima board.

Well I thought this would happen. He said the best deal he can give me is 6500 which still aint bad. Its still wholeasale. I dont want him to lose his job. The rear tires will need replacing soon, and its gona need a new o2 sensor which is minor. (plugged her up to the computer) Other than this the mechanic said its a good car, oil's been changed. He's an infiniti tech ,(past 18 yrs i think) so he knows about the motor since its the same as the I30.

Well complete control, I can see why you would ask.
But

I do NOT work for a nissan dealership.
If i did, i obviously would not ask. I work for Mercedes Benz. At out complex We have Acura, audi, Automax pre-owned, bentley, bmw, infiniti, lexus, mercedes, porsche, rolls royce, and volvo. Soon coming- maserati, ferarri and lamborghini.

I dont see Nissan anywhere on that list.

I'd pay 6500 for a 99 in a heatbeat. I bought my 95 in 1998 for 11k with 60,000 miles on it, and it currently has 120k on it, and I've never had a real problem with it (aside from maintenece crap...battery, tires, starter, knock sensor) and some body work that's getting done in a few days due to an unfortunate accident that sure as hell wasn't my Max's fault

6500 is still a really good deal, I'd jump on that in a second. Only thing I would want to check is if the tranny is in good working order, just have one of the mechanics take it for a test drive.. shouldn't be too hard to figure out if there are any big problems. If you wanted, you could probably sell it in a year for 1-2k more than you paid.

my brother did not rip me off becuase me and him swapped the endine and tranny from a 00 maxima. so i got a engine and tranny that only had 6,000 miles on it. And i know a engine like that costs more than 2,000.

easy, everything just simply hooked up. Every connector just fit perfect into the 1996 harness. The only problem I had was with the throttle. On a 2k, there are more hoses for the throttle and I had to find a place whee to fit them all. Plus a 2k flywheel has more teeth than a 96 so I had to switch tha back to a 96 flywheel because the computer read it wrong and made my rpm go all the way to 6600 on full throttle plus the light came on. But everything else was a direct bolt on.
