hood hinges/struts

The pair at local autoparts store cost almost 100 dollars. Ive been fine just putting a stick underneath. has anyone had luck with using used ones from a junk yard of another 3g max. STUPID QUESTION"is there any chance they would be cheaper at the dealer? any other place to get them

I know huh... I looked up my Maxima in the Cross reference book at the local Auto Parts store and it was something like part #194. The store had #193 and #195 in stock for like $20 so I asked them about #194 and they said it was "special order" and would cost more then twice as much as all the others. I would like to replace mine too if I can get a good price. For now I just use a Vice Grip on the Drivers side one.

$50 shipped? What brand or are they OEM?
Also, while I was at Pep Boys today, I looked again and this time they actually stocked them! They were $29.95 each.

give me a zip so i can calculate.
But one catch though. HAZARDOUS charge because you are in hawai they go air and these things are not allowed to go air with out it.
Any place in the 48 states I'll plead ignorant but hawai and alaska are a no go to me.

Because of my hood struts, + heavy wind, my hood blew shut while changing one of my headlights(I was putting in my old yellow bulb because one of my whites burned out so right now I'm two toned )

Well anyway I put the old bulb in an upright position on top of the air filter box. I walked away from the car for just a couple of seconds and the hood blew shut. I had a wrench lying on the car so it blocked it from shutting all the way. However the light bulb was still in tact. No cracks or nothing just bent. But when I shut the hood again and look at the top I notice a tiny upward ding with a little spider crack in it made from the pointed tip of the light bulb from underneath! How the hell does a bulb do that and not crack!!!

Oh, you like that do you. I was changing my belts and had a vice grip on my drivers side stut holding the hood up. Well, let the jack down a little to fast and the vice grip slipped, the hood slammed shut with the vice grip half in and half out. Yeah, I need a new hood now. Had to take a hammer and wood block to hammer the hood back down. Ticks me off every time I look at it. It had such a huge gap, by the windsheild that it was lifting up on the highway because of the wind.

Also, yep pep boys sell them for about $26 a peice.

Has anyone tried to install a hood prop like they used to have on hoods before the shock thing???
Kind of like a safety support.
