I had mine installed at Sear's for $295 with tax. They charged $200 for the part and $65 for labor. Dealer wanted $365 + tax. Didn't have time to shop around too much since starter was dying fast! They got the starter from a local shop.

BTW, this was for a '95 max. which had 85k on it.

Yeah, most of the starters you find at the auto stores are, more than likely, remanufactured. These are just as good. The dealer overcharges these because the starters are a genuine factory part made by Nissan. I replaced my starter in my '95, and it wasn't difficult at all. Just make sure you have a good torque wrench or breaker bar to loosen that top bolt on the starter. To get to the starter, just remove the air filter assembly and you're right on top of it.

I replaced my starter about two weeks ago and bought mine from Autozone for that price. I just took the old one out first and took it down there so I didn't get charged the core charge, and it came with a lifetime warranty. So if this starter ever craps out now as long as I own the car, Autozone will replace it free... can't beat that. It was about a little over an hour job altogether with taking the old one out, driving down town and getting the new one, and bringing it back and putting it in.

Yea Autozone has new and remanufactured starters. The duralast gold is the new one I believe and it comes with a lifetime warranty on it so you cant go wrong there. Good luck

None in the Chicago area. We have Pep Boys, AutoZone, and Murray's

That reminds me, need to get Marvel Mystery Oil (only 3 bucks) and tire shine stuff from Murray's

Just make sure you don't get an oil leak. I had a rear main seal leak, which got into my starter and voided the warranty when it went out.
