Paint Job Prices.

I Just wanted to know if you guys thought this was a good deal or not and how much you pay for your paintjobs.Im from Fl and they want $1900.I looked at it as alot but then again they are painting it Jet Black they said it would need 8 black coats and 5 clear coats for a real standout. Think this is about right?

That doesnt sound horrible. Would they be doing any bodywork to the car? Are they painting your door and trunk jams, inner fender? firewall? Also ask if they would be wetsand polishing your car afterwards. I know some painters are so good that wetsand polishing is not necessary but if there is any dust or slight grainyness in the paint, will they be fixing it?

The paintwork for my car, I got down as cheap as $400 canadian, if I did all the prep work, masking and polishing. Black is a very easy color to paint, assuming its not a pearl or metallic black.

If you've done all the prep work, I'd say $1900 is a lot. That is, unless you're getting some fancy-schmancy paint scheme. I got quoted $1250 for my paint job, and not only are they going to do some body work, but I'm bringing my car in fresh off the street.

since this thread is on the same topic ive got a question too. my car has some very small rust behind one of the front wheels and one of the rear but its hardly noticable. also the trunk has rusted where the spoiler came up.so should I have the whole car painted and rust fixed... or get just the trunk repainted and have the car compunded buffed etc? thanks!

Get the whole car painted if you can b/c one area will be brighter and a richer color than the unpainted parts

after a repaint my bro's door was a "new" white and the rest of the car (1987) was faded white. he compounded the car and it all look really good now. and blended well. so if you cant afford a whole paint job now get what you need to get done then compound the car.

That is not true, at the bodyshop I work at, we just do blending on cars, that is our specialty. maximum3rdgen, you should take your car somewhere that can polish the car and do the bodywork. Unless you feel comfortable doing any of the work yourself. Depending on how bad the rust is and how shops are in your area, you're looking at around $500 to fix the 2 rusts spots (fender and trunk lid) and give the car a polish.

Just a suggestion, but ask around town to see if theres any "retired" painters in your area. I found a guy in my town that has painted cars for about 20 years. Hes retired now, but still takes a few jobs locally in his garage. He does great work and only charges about $650 for a complete paint and he fixes any dings/dents. So ask around town, you may find someone like that near you.

You think thats cheap, I paid $100 + paint for a single stage paint job on my old S10. It actually came out really nice after polishing. Only problem was the paint ran a bit on the front bumper, but I wasnt going to complain. Just look around and see if someone will let you mask you own car and take it apart and put it back together yourself.
