Picture of IAC?
Picture of IAC?
I cleaned out my throttle body a while ago, yet I still have a rough idle. I am going to attempt to clean the IAC valve. I have the instructions, and I think I know where the IAC is, but I'm not sure. If somebody could take a picture of theirs, or link me to a page that shows what it is, that would be great.
did you guys who cleaned the iacv valve with throttle body cleaner notice any change in your idle, if it was better on cold starts or if your idle changed at all?
i have a high idle on cold start, but once it warms up the car idles perfectly.. wondering if this could be a dirty valve?

i once turned a corner going from thrid to second and in that between time in neutral my engine stalled...
after cleaning the IACV it worked great... I haven't had an idle problem since actually.... If your idle is jumpy, clean the IACV
Made a huge diff for me... heh
Generally speaking........
When you cold start your car, the idle will be running high....that is why it is recommended that your car be at its standard operating temp when you change/reset the idle RPM.
At start, my car idle's around 1,200 - 1,500 RPM.
Once warm, it is a constant 1,000 RPM
I plan on hacking my air box this weekend, after I clean the IAC.

finally there's some useful information in the 4th gen
how "high" are you refering? mine jumps up to 1,500rpm when it ignite, then drop down to 1,000rpm-1,100rpm. after 1 minute or 2 of driving, the idle goes back to 750rpm (i guess it suppose to be normal).
one thing i realized is that resetting your ECU actually helps after any sort of maintaince. i.e. knock sensor, O2s, throttle body, IACV, air filter, spark plugs.

I am going to clean the IACV tomorrow, but can't start until friday when all my turbo pipes get back from the chrome shop. I am also going to buy a knock sensor from the dealer and try replacing that too.

Actually I had gone one step further... When you remove the IAC theres a hole that goes into the manifold... (it's the manifold right? I forgot the exact name...
) so anyways that hole, I sprayed the inside with throttle body cleaner and did the best i could to remove the dirty inside there as well... I only had a mirror with me, so i had to reflect the sunlight into the hole so that i could see how dirty it was inside... It was pretty dirty...Maybe that will help as well?

I cleaned my IACV about 3 months ago. During the summer I did not have that problem. But it's gettin cold recently and I do observe that the rpm revs higher than during the summer. Temp does affect ignition in a way I guess.

I didn't... I reused the one that was there... It was in perfect condition anyways.. So I wasn't worried...

yeah i did that too, same result
I dont really understand where you guys are having idle problems. You say that when you start your car cold it idles at ~1200-1500rpms. Then after a minute or 2 drops down a little. Then after a few minutes of driving it drops to the normal idle speed, ~700rpms or whatever it is. Whats the problem?
It was my understanding that thats how engines are supposed to work. Every car i've ever driven has been that way. How is it that you expect your engines to run? 700rpms when cold?
I'm not trying to sound like a know it all. Lord knows i'm not. But my car does that same thing. And i dont think twice about it. Its normal. If i'm missing some detail than by all means point it out. I just dont consider you guys as having an Idle problem with your cars.
As for the main topic. I cleaned my IAC today. WAs nice and dirty like the pictures in the post. Cleaned it up real nice like. Hopefully i didnt mess anything up. I havent driven it yet so i cant give any feedback, positive or negative. I'll report back if anything weird happens.

i am more interested in not having my car be loud when it is cold. I have never experienced a fluctuating idle before or even that of a higher idle when it is cold out.
How is the car going to know to change the idle by temperature? And as far as that goes, it doesn't get much colder here in florida, so I think something else is going on.

I think that a car is supposed to have a high idle when it is first turned on when it is cold. Even if the weather isnt chilly, if the engine is cold it will have a high idle rpm. The problem I'm having is that at stop lights and such the idle drops down to around 500, and the whole car shakes. I cleaned my TB, so I'm gonna do this and come back with the info.
When you start your car your idle is supposed to be high becuause of the fast idle cam/solenoid device.
When I'm at a light the tach doesn't bounce but I can feel little jerks. I'm hoping that cleaning the IAC will fix this problem

After cleaning my IAC valve several times (4 times) in one year.. I still notice the a raise and drop in RPMs. I've had my car stall on my many times while in traffic when I placed it in neutral to coast. Does anyone know the part number for the valve thingy...not the entire unit.

I start my car on cold morning/evening and
it starts at 1500
drops down to ~1100
slowly goes down until it stops at ~660-670
Figure it's normal for the car to idle high until the oil has circulated through the system and reached optimum temperature
