40-45 MPH in 1st gear!

Okay, i tought my friend to drive my 5spd since we were going on a 800 mile trip, she did well untill one time we were on a highway on ramp and i told her to get on it a little bit to safely merge. she did, she was ready for the 2-3 upshift when she somehow made it into 1st! I have no idea how she did this i cant get it into first when the car is basically stopped. but anyways this happened in july or so, my car gets the same gas mileage, and doesnt burn any oil, and performs as well as before now several months later, i just was wondering if their could still be any long term affects of this mishap. I know it isnt good for the engine. but the car was at operating temperature for hundreds of miles so maybe 7000-8000+ rpm isnt that bad for a short amount or time?

Anything to reassure me that my car isnt gunna keel over would be great.

thanks

If you only hit 7000-8000rpm I dont think you need to worry much, some of the people with the JWT ECU have the rev limiter set at 7200rpm and they probably hit that number every time they race. Usually when something like that happens, the negative effects are felt immediatly.. such as a blown engine, heh. I'm pretty suprised the car let her shift into 1st, I've actually never driven a 5spd 4th gen but most cars won't let you shift into first unless you are going less than 5-10mph.

i've made a 5th to 2nd shift 2-3 times... @ 80mph+ (accidently).... first time was like 20k miles ago... and the most recent was a few weeks ago... the vq is tough... and if it was caught in a second or two, i'm sure your car will be fine.
