Severe Drop in Gas Mileage

Hi. I have a 1991 Max gxe with 248 000 km on the clock.

A few weeks ago, my wife noticed that she has been getting REALLY crappy fuel mileage; as in about 400km per fill up - all highway driving. We usually get 550km per fill up.

Haven't changed fuel brands
New spark plugs
New Air Filter
No apparent leaks seen on the driveway
No raw fuel smell in the cabin
No noticeable loss in power

Any thoughts on what could be the problem? (Advice on how to troubleshoot would also be appreciated)

Thank you!

I get about 400Km to a tank, mostly city driving, I usually fill up when it hits 1/4 tank, I've never tried running it dry. I also think I should be getting better mileage out of it.

Nope... I think it's the same O2 sensor that was in there at 160,000 KM in fact.

Is there an easy way to test if it's working properly before I replace it on spec?

I'll check out the foreignautoparts site. All depends on the shipping charge.

$65 isn't bad. I checked Napaonline, and they wanted something like $120 for a bosch!

What is so bloody special about these O2 sensors? Are they the heated variety?

Price for the O2 from foreignautoparts was for a Bosch, shipping was $20.00. Must weigh 10 pounds.
I always try to find out how much the shipping is because some shops add to the shipping to make up for the cheap price on the part. They call it handling. I call it rip off.

2 things:
1. Bosch is NTK in the box
2. they have the right to charge handling. You have to pay someone to box, label, and ship the part and people don't work for free.

Now admitteadly (sp?) 20 is kinda high for shipping

I may be able to better if We can get together about 10 people for the o2

We always get the excuse that it takes more work to ship to hawaii, and that's why it cost more. I can understand charging for handling, but I don't think the O2 can weigh more than #2 , and USPS priority shipping for #2 is $5.75. This means their going to charge $14.25 for handling. Rip off!!!
