should be a tranny filter under the trany pan. take the pan off the bottom, make sure you have a new gasket and it should be under there. this is just an educated guess ive had a few autos in my life and ive taken and rebuilt a few but none of them were maximas.

It's in the pan. ATP filter kit # b-157 but they have a note on the later ones that "filter replacement requires transmission disassembly"
This applies to the VG motor the VE has a different trans

Aight, the pan, if i'm not mistakin is it on the top of the trans? It's like a black pan under the air filter tube. Before i took the trany out of the car i bought i draned the oil out. Now did i do a good thing or not? tomorrow i will take out mine and swap the one i took out. Now i need to buy the oil and the filter. I really hope that this trany is good i took a real chance on it. I bought the car for $250.00. So what do u guys think so far?

I think if the pan is on the top of the trans it a RE4F02* trans, and to change the filter you would need to take the trans apart. So it's not changed.
If the pan is on the bottom of the trans, you can change the filter.
What year is your Maxima???

It's a 90se and trust me this will be the last time i ever do a trany swap. Yo i started yesterday and still have not finished it yet. Mind you it's me and a friend. Were Goin to try to put the trany on tomorrow. For the peeps that want to go in this endever, think about it first and get some money and take it to a mech. I think is the better way. I will let you guy know how it went, once i'm done.

It's kind of a pain because it's FWD. Sometimes it's easier to just pull the engine and trans all together. On some cars and mini vans I drop the whole sub frame.
Do you have a manual???? It helps sometimes.
