A more appropriate title... What should I pay for a 92 SE 5spd?

I found a 1992 white maxima SE 5spd for sale... It has some cosmetic problem, some touches of surface rust, and rust through the sheet metal on the trunk lid(under the spoiler), and its missing the foglights... I checked under the car and it is fine and the wheel wells are solid... The interior is complete and clean inside, there are 2 tears in the back seat about 3 inches long but I'm sure they can be fixed... There is a stalling problem with the engine, but I have a running parts car so I can just swap the likley suspects till I get the right combo to make it run right... The guy wants $3200, but immediately dropped it to $2500 after I told him I could save him the trip to nissan to get it diagnosed... so how much more do you think I could talk him down without insulting him? I plan on paying cash so I have the money there and it will be harder to refuse.

I bought mine for $1700, not running. It needed a front main seal and MAF sensor.

Do any of the cars on the East Coast come without rust???

BTW, I paid $2500 for mine and it came with an extra set of virtually new studded snow tires mounted on steel wheels. I would talk him down to at least $2000. Since you have a donor car available, you can probably piece together a good running VE.

No rust here either. Just hit 160K last week. Oh yeah, dude was asking $5k for mine 2 years ago with 100K on the odometer. I waved 40 $100 bills in his face and he took it. Cash in hand always works when trying to get the price you want.

I gave him 1000 in cash and he took it with out a question. But only if that guy new that the wheels that he gave me the car with i sold for 350 . so the car really came out 650 dollars. now that 's a deal.

if he was willing to drop that huge amount..i would go 2000 or 2200 and say take it or leave it. yes bring cash in hand..that usually helps.
