Tranny shifts HARD
Tranny shifts HARD
I just picked up my 4th maxima. Never had an automatic. What a treat for my daily driving. Here is the problem: the 1-2 shift is about as hard as my drag Camaro It doesn't slip or anything but even when it shifts at like 20 MPH it barks the tires. It's fun, but I'm worried about longevity. What do you all think? Is it really normal to do that. I'm not familiar with electronically controlled tranny's, I'd take a vacuum set up anyday. Could one of the neat and shiny electronic controls be causing this
Firm/rapid shifts are the KEY to increasing trans life span that and a bottle of lubegard red (60902)
The wear is greatly reduced on the trans friction plates because they engage faster rather than rubbing along while it shifts.

Sounds like either your fluid is bad (needs a drain and fill), or it might be your tranny dropping resistor might be bad. The resistor is located beneath the stock air box.
Definitly fix this problem or you'll kill your tranny.
Another potential problem may be the throttle positioning sensor might be bad or may need to be adjusted. If the closed throttle position switch is not set properly on the TPS then the tranny will shift hard.
Don't add any of those B-shiet additives...Fix the problem.

He is correct 91 se 5 speed, (2) 92 se 5 speed, 94 se auto the problem car.
Even though I can't imagine driving another automatic, some people aren't fans of having to shift their own gears. Plus I think manuals are more for people who want performance if you just wanna get from here to there why not get the automatic.
