couple questions regarding tune up
couple questions regarding tune up
just took my car into the dealership for their free check up in october promo. naturally i was expecting them to say about a million things are wrong trying to get my money, so I just let them find the problems, then I'll fix it. but first I got a couple of questions about it. they said there was a leak in the reverse light swith on the tranny??? can someone explain that? also my d/s rear shock is leaking....kyb agx's....I've never noticed that and I've checked it a lot because when I installed them I kinda scratched up part of the piston rod....are kyb's gauranteed in any way? I think that's all they said was wrong (besides needing new windshield wipers for winter.....$30, powersteering flush $80....blah blah blah)

You can replace the reverse switch yourself.
The scratch on your AGX's piston will void the warranty. The scratch causes the seal to ware out and after that the shock will loose it's charge.

Is it a 5 spd. or an auto? I only ask because I have 1st hand experience with the 5 spd. The procedure in either case is the same - take a look at it. If the leak isn't obvious then clean any crud off, drive the car for 15 minutes or so and take a look at it again. You could also put a piece of cardboard under the car over night after that. That should help you find a real slow leak. If a "mechanic" saw it during a tune up, chances are it's either obvious, or he made it up. Did he check or fill the fluid or oil in the tranny? Was it low?
If you find a leak, don't just automatically replace the sensor. On the 5 spd. there are two potential leak paths that I can see: past the o-ring seal, and through the sensor. You'd need to look at it closely to see it a leak is coming from around the flange or through the cable. If a leak is coming from around the flange, you can just replace the o-ring. If it's coming through the cable, you need a new sensor. In any case, make sure that everything is very clean when you put it back together (no lint, dust or grit). Good luck.
BTW how did you nick the strut piston? Those are usually hard crome. I tried to hacksaw through one once a long time ago, and never even scratched it.
thanks guys. yeah, I kinda thought that would void the warrenty. it was just a tiny scratch, don't know how it happened, somewhere in the process of unpacking it at home, and taking it out to the hanger to install it. as for tranny leak, I do have a 5 speed, I'm gonna crawl under there tomarrow through the snow and dirt to take a look, but hopefuly next week I'll be able to use the 4 post to install my ypipe and SFC's so I can really check it out then.
again, thanks for the help.
again, thanks for the help.
