For white max owners.....

Is it me or is our white front bumper discolored somewhat, from the car? I've noticed this for awhile, and it bothers me everytime I wash my car. The bumper really stands out somewhat. Its not pearly shiny white, its more of dingy white. Can this be fixed if I where to take it to a paint shop, and would it mostly match? Thanks, P.S. I did search the forum. No results.

This is what i notice as well. For me, the front and back bumper seems to be a little different than, lets say, the color of the doors. I don't know why though...i was thinking that the last owner probably replaced the bumpers?

The reason for the discolor is that most of your body's surface is metal. The bumper covers are plastic and thus have a different reaction and bond with the paint. That is why no matter what you do, it'll have a slight off look. I suppose if you really want to, a paint shop could probably spend a lot of time trying to correct that. I dunno, my Maxima doesn't really bother me. If it's not sparkling clean, you won't notice. I always seem to have a layer of dirt all around the car, so it's not noticable.

It is true that the bumpers are plastic, versus the body being metal, so there may be paint variations. Even pretty new cars sometimes have pretty bad variations. If your car was used there is also the possiblity of a respray of the bumpers. I was reading a book about used cars sales by a used car salesman. He said that at auto auctions they have spray booths to spray bumpers, and he estimated a huge number of cars on the road have had some paint work. He said that any car will typically get some scratches on the bumpers, but buyers really look at the condition of a car's exterior to decide about how well the car was maintained. Therefore it was important to respray bumpers. But, like I said, even nondamaged, never sprayed bumpers can fade at different rates or even pretty new, seem slightly different due to painting different materials.

On my car, I could notice the difference in a shop (damn white tube lights), but outside I only notice the difference a little.

The thing everyone notices is the 5" by 1" blue scratch I have on my passenger rear door. Need to do something about that

I had a white 92 Maxima and I used Meguire's cleaner on it, it helped some. Use a couple applications on the bumpers.

i'm white and i have a maxima.

it's true that most maxes have different looking bumpers because pearl colors are so hard to match. however, some shops if they're really good and experienced should be able to do it close enough where you wouldn't notice. i think prolly the only way you'd never notice is if the whole car was being repainted most likely.

I've seen this too on both front and rear bumpers, at first I thought the front was painted differently since my brother had a front end accident w/ it a while back, maybe as others have said here a good wax could even the bumpers out w/ the rest of the car
