Gauge pod without SC or Turbo: too ricey?

I'm thinking of getting the Custommaxima triple gauge pod in black from the GD in the GD forum. I don't have a Turbo or a SC, but I was thinking of putting a Voltmeter, Oil gauge and one other gauge in the pod. Would this be too ricey? I think it would be pretty cool, but aside from the rice factor, what other gauges can I put in there that will be functional other than Oil and a Voltmeter? Thanks!

Hmm.. so aside from the Oil and Voltmeter gauges, the others are not as "useful" for everyday applications, right? Not counting Turbo/SC/Nos setupus, of course...

What shot, kloogy?

Oil Pressure, Oil temp, Air/fuel ratio ( My choice, for application w/o FI)

Why do you care if its rice or not, if it looks good to you then go ahead and do it. After all its your car~

I think I would do Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and Voltmeter (I didn't realize that there were two separate gauges for the pressure and temperature). What should the pressure and temperature be in our cars?

I am just asking what people think because I see it as kinda ricey because I always thought that gauges are best left for FI cars, but recently I started to like the look regardless of FI or not. I don't want much, if any, rice-type stuff on my car, so I wanted to see what the org populus would say. You're right though, it is my car..

If I pull up next to someone who has a gage pod and no boost, I point and laugh.
It's your car though.

I guess most of you mistake "guage meters" to be something ricy, I think its all in your head, you see others laugh, then you have to follow

In my point of view, if you want to understand what going on in your engine and to protect it better, you have to install guages to know whats going on, Water temp, oil temp, oil pressure, voltage, etc..........I totally think its OK to have guages that you need that factory does not include in "STOCK" form.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE TURBO or SUPERCHARGER to have guages in your car, Just have the ones you NEED.

However, its another story to have a "Boost Guage" in your car when you don't have "Boost".

RICE RICE RICE
Do you really need to know the oil pressure when you are driving? NOPE. And if your gauge said it was low would you stop driving? NOPE
if you needed them they would already be there.
it is all for show. that and the wall clock tac on the dash. why do you really need as many gauges as the cars in NASCAR. YOU DONT!!!!!! i doubt the people that have them even look at them. my jeep came with all the gauges (on the dash) i never even looked at them.

You could put in three clocks and have them set to different time zones. Seriously though, do whatever you want. Keep in mind that when some kid pulls up and sees a guage pod he's thinking your car is worked and is going to want to run. It gets old after a while.

For someone who just drives "normal" ofcourse you don't need to know the temp of the oil and other stuff..........what about people who goes to track often and constantly tuning their cars for maximum performance? You need to "understand" what those guages mean before you install them. (Ofcourse it would be Rice if someone didn't understand what those guages mean and have a whole bunch of them installed) Again, I want to repeat, "Get only the guages you need, not the one's you don't need"

I dunno why your Jeep came with a bunch of guauges, maybe the manufacture think they are going to take Jeeps to the Circuit and drive like a touring car or something.

EX, my friend has a early 90's Corolla 5spd, believe it or not it didn't not came with a RPM meter, only the Speedo meter. So he went and got a RPM meter installed next to the Speedo, now is he trying to be rice??? Or just for his own personal convinence?

ok for someone who acts like he know more about cars then me - its called a tachometer. not an RPM meter
i understand what they all mean. but even at the track, SO WHAT!!.
and my jeep had them cause off-roading is harder on an engine then any of the "racing" you do. ill show you some day

Ah yes, the rice hater come out, hehe...

I want to put them in simply because, as people have said, I want to know what's going on in my car. I don't understand why in the hell Nissan did not include oil pressure/temperature and voltmeter gauges. I run a pretty hefty system, so volt readings would be excellent. Oil readings speak for themself. And I know that some people will get the wrong idea ("ohhh gauge pod, I'm gonna run this guy...") but hey, the Max is pretty fast as is, and I have no qualms about showing stupid people that.

I'll have to think it all over though, as gauges are like $60 a piece...

You MUST be joking! My buddy has a Defender 90 and we go offroading all the time. NO WAY is wheeling more abusive than running up over 100 mph on a road course for 30 minute sessions. If any needs a reality slap its you!

so you are saying that stopping and going over huge rocks is NOT harder on an engine then straight speed? i have twisted axels before cause of all the tourqe. you are pretty stupid.
a defender huh? im not talking about driving on a dirt road!! thats not offroading!!!
i would take offroading over racing some kid in a civic anyday.

ok and twisted axles has what to do with oil pressure and temp. My buddies Defender will drive over whatever piece of crap you have. You think that holding a car near redline on a race course for 4 or 5 THIRTY minute sessions is not harder on idleing over big rocks! Im done with you. You have proven you are a retard. Thanks for the laugh!

ahahahahahahhaha..........jeep.....theyre....kindo f...cool.....nope....but anyway it would be lame if u get gauges without a significant amount of mods....wait tho heres an idea save ur money that u were going to spend on those gauges and save up for that turbo...(whenever it does grace us with its presence)....but ahaha jeeps.....umm lost my train of thought....just do whatever u want to do...if the only purpose that ur getting them for is for looks then dont bother......and oklahoma blows

the axles has to do with how hard the engine works. have often have you replaced your motor mounts? i have 4 times cause of the buttload of tourque. and you dont idle over big rocks!!! there is alot of tear on the engine.
tell your buddy to bring his piece of cr@p defender so i can own him in my jeep with 6 in lift, 35s, and lockers.

being at redline for hours is not as bad as redline, stop, redline, stop.
and it takes more skill to offroad then it does to push a gas pedal down all the way.
its been real. im out peace

OT: Its one thing to disagree with someone elses opinion, but ragging on the Sooners is just plain ignorant. And if you are going to rag on the Sooners, back it up. Don't just do it just to pi$$ him off.

comparing a mildly modified Defender 90 and a mildly modified Jeep Rubicon is like comparing a maxima to a bmw 530

both have pretty similiar capabilities except for some reason one costs a about 20+ grand then the other

Sorry I usually just referr it as the "RPM meter", excuse me for not using the "techometer" term. That makes you much smarter than me~

I've said why i think its ok to have the extra guages and made my point clear, no point to argue with you and being a post *****.

Where else can I put gauges that I want? It's not like I am putting Boost gauges in without actually having boost; to the contrary, I want oil pressure/temp and voltmeter gauges. Any other place I can put them without having to do much custom work?
