I think my water pump just went?.....
Hi guys, I've been noticing a whining noise from under the hood. Thought it may be my water pump, though it wasn't leaking or anything. I left work today and it was cold out, so I turned on the heat, it got warm then cool, then warm again. My temperature gauge never goes higher than just under half way. I then started to see it slowly climb and then go back down then back toward hot, I could smell antifreeze and before it could climb any higher, I pulled into a convience store and stopped the car. There was steam coming out from under the hood. I looked under the hood, and there was antifreeze everywhere! All hoses appear to be good and thermostst was replaced about 6 months ago. Antifreeze holding tank was almost empty. For you tech guys, any ideas? Radiator or water pump? Water pump has not been done since I,ve owned the car. 5 years and 185k miles.
Thanks for any suggestions

Rerun the engine with antifreeze and look to see where it's leaking.
Either way let me know what you need. I got it
OK, in this picture, follow the upper radiator hose on the left side of the engine bay. That hose goes into a pipe that is connected to the water pump.
Id buy a Chiltons manual (They haynes doesn't cover the VE30DE) if you are planning to do this job yourself.

I knew the info on the pump was in the stickies!
You just have to look

Water pump is a fun job, Did it on my max back in the spring
UDP had to be removed, the drive belts, couple other pullies, and we used a large board to dislodge the engine so we could fit water pump down and out between engine and frame.
and this was all new to us on this car how it all fit toegether.......
several hour job. And then once we finally got it all back together by 10pm, using spot lights everwhere,
we get up in the morning and notice a leak, and see that we put the upper water pump gasket on upside down. ARRRGH, so everything back apart
anyways, that picture above looks strange, took mea minute to figure out why it didnt't loke like my VE....
number 1: its cleaner
number 2: why is your radiator reservoir on the left side? mine is on right side beside battery wtf.

Not even a Jedi Master could do the Max SE water pump replacement in an hour!
The radiator resevoir is on the left becuse he doesn't have ABS. If he had ABS the control unit(or what ever it is) would be there and the radiator resevoir would be by the battery.
What did the Whining sound like? how loud was it? My "new" SE has a quiet whine to it, it kinda sounds like a turbo spooling up - *Note, I checked for a turbo... No turbo-

2. everyone is right, I don't have ABS, so there you go
The water pump is much easier to do if you remove the tranny first, then you just tip the engine over and take the water pump out.
NINTY-TWO-SE, if when you turn your steering wheel and you hear the whinning noise even louder, then difenitly its your pump. I got the same problem with mine, i'm now waitting for a good day to change it, so far no luck
